I saw the first and n°2 this week .
Brian de Palma : really enjoyed the debut one with Jean Reno , evil as Hell  and I' m a longtime fan of Kristin Scott Thomas. Too bad for Emmanuelle Béart , she was already way too much botoxed . Few years before , she was so beautiful.  Anyway, great film and great acting.
8/10

John Woo : Despite the presence Thandie Newton and the Sevilla's sequence, this is easily the worst of the Tom Cruise/Ethan Hunt serie. The villain played by this clown named Dougray Scott is just laughable . Never noticed the christic pose of Cruise during the rock climbing intro.

Visually very beautiful, I watched this movie until the end. A colorful gallery of characters, except the ridiculous Black Manta that seems to be completely anachronistic compared to the rest.

The tumultuous early history of the Central Intelligence Agency is viewed through the prism of one man's life.  Much too long and a bit slow, despite a strong cast. 6/10

I saw Missing Link recently. Stop-motion animation from Laika the studio that has previously brought us Coraline, Paranorman, The Box Trolls and Kubo and the Two Strings. This film is fine, but weak compared with the other films I've mentioned here. It's funny, well animated and some of the back drops are jaw dropping. But nothing can take away from the fact that the title character looks cheesey and the plot is a little flimsy and predictable. The voice cast is good though and I still think Laika are better than Aardman Animation (Wallace and Gromit / Shaun the Sheep etc.). 7.5/10

Watched Silver Bullet last night. Not sure why I like this movie but I do and watch it every time it comes on.

I remember seeing that as a kid and being pretty scared. I just recently bought a box set of Stephen King movies and Silver Bullet was one of them. I need to see it again as I hardly remember it.

I checked out the new Hellboy yesterday. The reboot stars David Harbour, Mila Jovoich and Ian McShane. It's a darker imagining of the comics that Guilermo Del Torro gave us back in 2004 and 2007.

The film is solid, much better than the critics seem to think, but it pales when compared with Del Torro's earlier efforts. Its plot is a little cheesey, once again concentrating on Arthurian Legend which seems to be all of a rage in recent years. David Harbour is pretty good as the titular Hellboy, and the supporting cast are solid. There's nothing wrong with the effects either considering its relatively low budget. Some of the set-peices didn't quite work, and the plot wasn't as coherent as it could have been, but those are minor quibbles really. 7.5/10

Almost forgot, we saw Raising Arizona on rental the other day. While it is Coen brothers quirky, I feel as an early one of theirs they were still finding their feet. It's ok but nothing special. 6/10

Saw that many years ago and had forgot about it as well.
