In the last few days we saw What Men Want in the cinema, plus RBG and Slaughterhouse Rulez on rental.

What Men Want is one of the worst films I've seen in ages... even the girlfiend who likes this sort of RomCom didn't have a good word for it. It's a shame because much of the cast is better than this garbage. 3/10

RBG is a documentary about the extraordinary Ruth Bader Ginsberg of the US Supreme Court. We saw On the Basis of Sex the other week which dramatises much of the events in her life up until the early '70s, and the girlfiend wanted to know more about her. It's an okay documentary, but like most documentaries of this nature I get bored quickly if I'm not fully engaged with the topic. 6/10

Slaughterhouse Rulez is a comedy, horror in much the same vein as Shaun of the Dead. As with SotD the cast includes Simon Pegg and Nick Frost but they take a more supporting role. The film is set in the illustrious boarding school called Slaughterhouse where the headmaster (Michael Sheen) has sold the rights to frack on some of the schools land. This cause a sink hole to open and release some subterranean critters. The stroy otherwise revolves around some of the students (Asa Butterfield, Finn Cole and Hermione Corfield) as they discover whats happening and fight for their lives. Some of the supporting cast here are great including a cameo from Margot Robbie. The film didn't get great reviews when it came out but I really enjoyed it. It's quite gory, doesn't do anything particularly new but it is very funny. 8/10

I watched the Def Leppard biopic the other day out of curiosity. Ended up being a total waste of 85 minutes of my life. Seriously 1/10

Have borrowed Bohemian Rhapsody on Bluray of my father and will give it a watch over the weekend.

An insomniac office worker and a devil-may-care soapmaker form an underground fight club that evolves into something much, much more.  Two complaints about the way this movie was made: 1) too much shifting scenes and camera movement, makes me dizzy,  2) excessively fast dialogue throughout the film.  4/10

It seems that this film is cult. Seen it only once and that was enough for me. I would never understand the excitement of this film despite the fact that I'm a fan of Norton and Pitt.

Didn't Robert Louis Stevenson write a similar story back in the day? Oh yeah, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde...

Right you are, and I'm a fan of those 2 as well.

the film didn't have the hoped success and I never watch the Casablanca cult movie. That being said, I really enjoyed this movie, Cotillard shows his talent and Pitt, despite a face marked by personal hardship, is credible in this role.

We saw Shazam! the other day. It didn't quite live up to the hype and rave reviews but it was okay. It is pretty funny in places, and the acting from the younger cast is fine (but not exceptional), and even though Mark Strong makes a good baddie, there wasn't much depth to the story and the plot generally was pretty much a "join the dots" affair. 6.5/10

Another film we saw over the weekend was Borg vs McEnroe on rental, a story of the two men leading up to the "historic"* 1980 Wimbledon final.

The film is only about 1 hour 40 minutes in length but it feels like an enternity. It is slow, not much appears to happen and then in the last act you have a re-enactment of the final in way too much detail and length!

The guy who plays Borg is the spitting image of him. Shia LeBeouf looks nothing like McEnroe but gets the voice off quite well. But that can't make up for a pretty poor effort all round. 3/10

* I find tennis to be one of the most boring sports ever invented so I use the term "historic" based on other peoples opinions of it!!

^^^^^^
You would have to be a competitive tennis player in order to fully appreciate the film's accurate depiction of events, characters, and the mental pressure a player must endure at this level.  That's why I gave it 8/10. (reply #689)

You're right, I can see that a tennis fan could really like this film. I'm not... so I didn't! ;)

The same would probably happen to me if there was a good film out there about soccer.  You would enjoy it, (if it were indeed a good film) but I would not be capable of really appreciating it.
