Hey Typhon, I know you're a Hammer House fan, have you ever seen Legend Of The Seven Golden Vampires?
Yes, I own it.  It is the 9th and final film in Hammer's Dracula film series, and IMO, the weakest.

BLACK SHEEP

A couple of idiot animal activists break into a sheep farm in New Zealand that is experimenting on sheep using genetic manipulation with human dna and end up releasing a failed experiment that infects all the sheep at the farm making them flesh eating monsters. The farm's estranged sheep fearing co-owner comes to sell his share to his brother and ends up fighting for his life with his childhood friend and the beautiful activist.

The horror comedy successfully manages to turn cuddly sheep into savage monsters which again turn humans into zombie-like sheep monsters. An idea that is so out there that it is actually rather awesome.

Sadly the movie does not quite manage to live up to the awesome idea. There are few laugh out loud moments and the gore is nicely over the top but for something as crazy as this there should be much more humor and this fails to deliver on that department.

You don't see a lot of movies coming from New Zealand so this is a nice oddity and it clearly tries to pay tribute to some of Peter Jackson's early works, especially Bad Taste and Braindead but the humor should be more prominent in order to make it fully work.

But the idea is so brilliantly crazy that it does carry the movie quite well and the cast is doing a good job and the make up department did great with all of the practical effects, no CGI was used which is always a plus. With added humor and crazier deaths this could have been a real cult classic.

They were showing the 2015 reboot of Fantastic Four on TV tonight. I hadn't watched it before because it was paned by critics as well as a couple of friends (both comic book fans) who saw it. But with little else to do I thought "why not?".

Starring Miles Teller, Jamie Bell, Kate Mara and Michael B Jordan, it is a reboot which goes back to their origins. The first problem is that it takes half the film before they get their powers... by which time you're bored. BUT the film gets less exciting when they have their powers. The film is dull, plodding along with wooden acting, laughable dialogue and average effects to a finale which would have seemed amaturish 20 years earlier. Comic book films have come such a long way in the last 15 years you wonder why the studio let this happen. I'll give it 3/10 because I usually like the leads and I have seen worse films.

Perhaps they should retitle the film the Less Than Average Four.   :))

A Pakistani businessman tracks down and confronts the military drone contractor who he thinks killed his family.  Story slightly lacking. 6/10

I honestly haven't heard anyone liking that film. What a disaster.
The first one wasn't brilliant by any means but it still was miles above this train wreck. This movie was pretty much a poster boy of horrible remakes.

You're right the first one wasn't great but at least it had Jessica Alba in it to distract ones attention.

@Typhon
I can think a of a lot of good names for it, What The Fuck Was That For? would seem appropriate.

At least I didn't have spend money to see it!

First saw this when I was around 12.  I have to give these film makers credit for building such a detailed model city as well as a fleet of military vehicles, only to wind up destroying most of it. 6.5/10

The trailer for the "The Kings Man" (released Feb 2020) showed up today. I only mention it because War Pigs plays a prominant role. A prequel to the earlier films starring Taron Egerton and Colin Firth this one is set around 1914 and looks a lot better than the previous Kingsman; The Golden Circle. It has a really good cast.

Last movie seen: Scott Pilgrim vs The World

It was fun, nicely done comic-book action sequences with video game effects. I didn't care about the story because I was having such fun with the action.

This Hammer production is about a timid, withdrawn woman who meets a man she believes is finally the love of her life, unaware that he is a serial killer. 6/10

Early 1970s, 4 strangers check in at the El Royale Hotel.  The hotel is deserted, staffed by a single desk clerk.  Some of the new guests' reasons for being there are less than innocent and some are not who they appear to be.  Interesting story and good cast. 7.5/10

Two estranged brothers reunite to make an improbable run at the U.S. Open.  Enjoyable film with plenty of laughs, even if you have never played tennis. 8/10

I went to see Joker today. It's the origin story of the iconic Batman villain. It stars Joaquin Phoenix with supporting turns from Robert De Niro, Frances Conroy & Zazie Beets; it is directed by Todd Phillips who is perhaps best known for the Hangover Trilogy. It is based on The Killing Joke story with heavy influences from Scorsese classics Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy.

First off it should be said that there is no "super heroism" or "special abilities" in this film, it is the character study of a man (Arthur Fleck - Phoenix) transforming into a monster as his world disintergrates. There is no light hearted moments here even though he dresses as a clown and tries to be a stand-up comedian. He gets sacked from his job and his beloved mother (Conroy) is not in the best of health. He obviously has long standing mental issues as we see him visit his health worker and laughs manically in the most innapropriate circumstances.

Phoenix is astonishing as Fleck moving from a person with the desire to be nice and helpful, to a murderous fiend with such a flawless fluidity you barely notice it is happening. De Niro is pretty good as a suave talk show host who crosses paths with Fleck. Beets plays a neighbour in a low key but subtle role the object of Flecks fantasies.

There's been some conroversy about the films violence but to be fair there's not that much violence in the film and when it happens it is in short spurts. There's certainly nothing like the amount of violence seen in the recent Rambo film which was also far more graphic.

As long as you don't think of this film as a super hero film when you go in you should be all right. It is a great film which could easily garner some awards season buzz particularly for Phoenix. I'm not saying he is better than Heath Ledger in the role but he *is* as good. 9.5/10

So I take it he does not encounter The Batman.
