There's very few live albums that I enjoy more than the studio versions of any given song that might be on the live album. So I'll compromise, if that's allowed, and throw out a few that I think are fantastic. First up:

Lou Reed: Rock n' Roll Animal

There aren't enough superlatives to do this live set justice. If you haven't listened to it, do so at least once before you die.

#9 Ozzy - Speak/Talk of the Devil

I don't know if it is that good but I always enjoyed it back in the day when it was released, it had a pretty good set list. but I haven't played it for a while.

BTW. I'm restrictting myself to 1 album per band, but I'm including DVDs if it had a CD release.

#8 - Yes - Keys to Ascension

Mainly a live album, it did have 2 new studio tracks at the end of CD 2 (neither of which I particularly remember!), but the set list is great. Typical prog tropes, just 9 songs over the 2 CDs, 6 of which are over 10 minutes (3 are around 20 minutes). But I don't mind there's some classic Yes songs here.

I feel like I need two lists. Pre 2000 and post 2000. Is that ok Charger?

Sure. I just want to see your lists so bend the rules a bit if you need to! I'm not such a stickler... :)

I'm gonna be having some bonus albums that nearly made the list anyways too!

AC/DC: Live at the Atlantic Studios.

A solid piece of live material with a raw edge to it that I really enjoy. Too bad it was hung up for years before being generally released, which also may explain why I like it so much. At the time, a friend of mine had a sister that worked for a local radio station, and she gave it to me. While everyone else was spinning If You Want Blood... (another good live set), I'd whip out my Atlantic Studios disk. For a brief time it garnered me a small cache of "coolness" lol.

Nod to Vyn: you gotta listen to that Lou Reed live album. You just *do*.

NUMBER 8 NON-DP...

Dio may not be at his prime, but this set with him sticking 100% to Dio-era material allows him to be at his best with Tony, Geezer, and Mr. Appice. Dio doing Dio is Dio doing his best work. I also think this is Black Sabbath's best live set, with zero faffing around - everyone means business on this set.

My number 8 DP release:

Scandinavian Nights

This is DP in 1970, just starting out with officially having Ian Gillan up front. The set is raw, energetic, and more than a few tracks are lightning in a bottle. It's a full 2 albums, showing what the band had to do before they wrote "Smoke on the Water". Excellent both for historical as well as listening purposes.

#7. Black Country Communion - Live Over Europe

I've got the BluRay, but there was also a 2CD version. They rarely did live shows but when they did they were as great as their reputations demanded. A good selection of songs from their early albums plus DP's Burn and Joe Bonamassa's The Ballad of John Henry.

For my non-DP #7...

This one's one of my Desert Island Discs, so no surprise to see it in my top ten list. This set has such a wonderful, dreamy, hazy, wintery feel to it. Yes, it's hard rock, but it's hard rock you can really get down and chill out to.

My number 7 Deep Purple...

An excellent set of their '74 Kilburn Gaumont State show. Fun fact: Elf opened for them... hmmm...

Blackmore's focus is tight on this set, as he's not yet practicing secretly with a different band. :) Seriously, though, I enjoy this first-year Mk3 set along with their California Jam performance. This is the one I bought on album, though, so it's the one I'll put on my chart.
