I'm pretty sure I'll see Overkill, Bomber, and Ace of Spades in some order in the top three on any list. EVERYBODY's heard them and loved them, usually.

Bastards(1993)

A year after the misguided and watered down March or Die in 92 Motörhead returned with a different direction and a renewed energy in 93 producing one of the heaviest and most aggressive albums under the Motörhead banner. Much of the newfound energy and aggression can be put down to the recruitment of drummer Mikkey Dee who is an absolute beast on this album which is matched by the rest of the band. The songwriting and musicianship is top notch, the music heavy and relentless(only really lightening off for the ballad “Don’t Let Daddy Kiss Me”)and the production is polished and powerful which all combined makes Bastards one of the best albums in the Motörhead catalogue.

Highlights are the first four ball-tearers  “On Your Feet Or On Your Knees”, “Burner” “Death Or Glory” and “I Am The Sword” along with the fun fan live favourite “Born To Raise Hell”. “We Bring The Shake” and “Devils”are both great also but I honestly think every song on this album is great.

MOTÖRIZER

This album features  several of my favourite Motörhead tunes inlcuding the fantastic punchy opener Runaround Man, the heavy Teach You How To Sing The Blues, the short but rocky Rock Out, one of the band's best album closers The Thousand Names Of God and one of my all time favourites When The Eagle Screams. But it does also have some weak points like the lackluster English Rose and the forgettable Heroes and Time Is Right. But overall this album does hold it's own and is one of the bands most METAL albums.

Sadly not all the best ones were ever preformed live, but giving Lemmy's vocal delivery on Runaround Man I can easily imagine that being rather hard to reproduce live night after night. But Rock Out and The Thousand Names Of God became live staples for tours to come and both making it to the brilliant double live release The Wörld Is Ours.

Also the understated album cover is somewhat SUBERB:

The lists have been quite different with our rankings so far which is no surprise given such a large discography to choose from with not many weak albums. Don’t think there will be much difference in our top fives though besides order maybe.

@Tyr I’d be interested in your top 10 ranking. I know how much a fan you are.

This one's my #1... and you got *SIX* better than this? Either I missed out on a lot, or you've got an odd concept of "seventh place". :D

Maybe not six that are better but still six that I myself like much better. There is no doubt however that it just an awesome album all around but I personally think that they have done stronger albums than this.

I started giving 1916 a listen and it's a shame the band did Rock 'n' Roll, because it made me miss out on that release, which includes one of the best Hawkwind songs, "Nightmare".

Another Perfect Day(1983)

After the acrimonious split with Fast Eddie Lemmy recruited former Thin Lizzy guitarist Brian “Robbo” Robertson for 83’s “Another Perfect Day” which on the surface seemed like an extremely odd fit but turned out to be a brilliant blend of musical styles. Robbo’s more technically advanced, very melodic and bluesy style of playing mixed with Lemmy’s rough and raw vocal delivery, rumbling distorted bass and all-round bad ass rock ‘n’ roll attitude along with Philthy’s hard hitting drummimg style make this the most uniquely brilliant album in the Motörhead catalogue. Much maligned and even dismissed at the time it’s thankfully gone on to be much loved and respected by Motörhead fans new & old. The many highlights include opener “Back at the Funny Farm”, “Shine”, “Dancing on your Grave”, “One Track Mind”, “Marching Off To War”, I Got Mine”, and “Tales of Glory”

P.S. I could’ve had this album as high as 3 or 4 and maybe would’ve on another week or year but I’ll leave it at #5 today.

Bit surprised about that making your list...It's not that widely liked album I think. I personally found it bit lacking...Robbo's guitarplaying doesn't fit Motörhead's style at all..The thunder and drive is missing.
That being said, I just ordered the Deluxe Edition of it yesterday though!! :D

AFTERSHOCK

The comeback album after Lemmy's health troubles started and oh boy what an album it is. Lemmy surely found some new drive and fury from his health issues after the somewhat lackluster The World Is Yours album.
The furious opener Heartbreaker immediately sets the tone for what you know is going to be an awesome album. Even the slower track Lost Woman Blues works brilliantly. But it is tracks like Death Machine, Do You Believe, End Of Time, Silence When You Speak To Me and especially the incredible Queen Of The Damned that put this album firmly into the top 5!

Also this has one of the bands best ever cover arts!
