All Things Vinyl

Yeah...bit by bit. Mainly ofcourse new Vinyls but I do occationally (when I can afford them) check through the used vinyls lists to see if something pops up.

Most of the 70s stuff though (Sabbath, Purple and Rainbow) have gotten too expensive already...I don't fell like coughing up 70+€ for G- vinyls...

I still have a little bit of work to do on the new stereo location, but it now sounds good enough to enjoy listening to. Notable features of the space include the cheap-ass area rug, whose only purpose is sound dampening, and the thick sound abatement "blanket" covering the stairwell railing to the left. Without that, the bass sound from that speaker sounds thin. Those heavy-duty blanket-things work great but don't really complement a sophisticated living space

I've carted up a random stack of albums just to start off with, but need to not only go through those and remove stuff I won't listen to but bring up a couple of hundred more.

That sounds like there's a possibility of dangerous power spikes. You should invest in a good-quality 30K' storm baffle that you can mount around your city so that oncoming storms are dissipated and diverted off to the north and south of where you live. Optimal placement would be from Olathe to Leavenworth, from what I can reckon on prevailing wind patterns. Might also have to dam up the Kansas River, but, hey, you want that uninterrupted clean power for the best sound experience, right?

Seriously, that looks like a nice spot so far. What kind of chair will go in for the one who listens?

Thanks guys - I have a nifty recliner arriving tomorrow. The one I have in my office is about on its last recline. Plus it's leather and after 20 years of us looks nice and worn out lol. So, this new one is charcoal colored, cloth, will layout flat, made by Lazy Boy. I know they have a stylized spelling but I'm too lazy to look it up.

AS far as storm driven power spikes, my preamplifier has a power spike transforming unit in it that turns any excess power into gold coins. I pray daily for power spikes!

You should buy a mini nuclear reactor for your preamp setup to make best use of your high-end gold coin gear.

After about 250 years, it'll practically pay for itself!

That's cool! I remain very pleased with the vinyl resurgence of the past decade or so. Seems it starting taking off when younger folks found records to be great wall art. They didn't actually listen to them, but their purchases started poking life back into the industry. Over time and now more people are enjoying spinning those disks, resulting in new turntables being produced that are both inexpensive and good quality. For quite a while a person interested in vinyl had to suffer with cheap gear that sounded like shit or get a loan to buy a turntable. No more!

So when I see you post about your latest haul of vinyl, not only is it cool to see what it is, but it also reinforces the continuing appeal of records. Which, in turn, helps me - it's like symbiosis and shit lol!

I almost forgot to mention - since they aren't my cup of tea - I acquired two new records this past Friday.

Better Broken by Sarah McLachlan (the version only avail. from her concerts) and In the Hour of Chaos by Allison Russell.

Allison opened for Sarah last Thursday, and one of my admirers bought them for me. I had never heard of Allison, and Sarah has some haunting vocals but I never got into the whole Lilith Fair crowd. But, I didn't complain, and appreciated the thoughtfulness involved in spending the time and money to pick them up. I spun them, of course. Not bad - will be good for background music while vacuuming!

So, they get a mention, with an asterisk. I have other records I actually bought, as part of bulk buys, that are way, way worse.

Sarah McLachlan truly is a great singer. I first heard her on the remixes of her song "Silence". I'm not going to get everything she's done, but she's an artist to have a good 2-3 records of for when those moods strike one.

Yeah, she has a gifted set of pipes. Judging from her latest album, still does. Allison's record shows she can belt out a tune, but the record overall lacks immediacy. I think she can carry that, but the production just doesn't do it. I am told she is much better in person, perhaps she suffers from Peter Frampton Syndrome?

Could be on the Peter Frampton Syndrome thing, though I've never heard her live. I quite like her Wintersong album, though.
