Charger: Overkill, Mel C, Cranberries, State of Euphoria, Megadeth, Born Again... Ones I'm already familiar with and like. I'm interested in the newer Maiden and I'll give Iced Earth, Jugulator, and Blaze a try.

Vyn: I'll borrow everything up to Venom. I'm not a Death/Black/Extreme Metal fan. I'll try Samantha Fish, love that Saxon album (my first, as well), the Sabbath bootleg, War, Wet Willie and of course Spacegoat.

Thel: Beatles, DP, Kiss, ***Dean Martin YES***, 9-12, 17-18, and Coltrane for sure. Interested in poking around the rest of the collection, just not the extreme stuff.

KDC: Wondering if we get assigned adjoining rooms... that would facilitate the borrowing... just a few I'm not immediately interested in and would likely give a go because, what the heck, it's a desert island.

JtS: I'll be sure to let him inspect my needle cartridge, vinyl cleaner, and the archive gloves I'll use to handle his records so he'll be at ease as I sign out and sign back in for a borrow. 1-10 I'll borrow except the Slayer, not my cup of tea, the Slayer. Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here is perfect, and so is Ride the Lightning. And Let There Be Rock. And Metal Church. Loving those. Also Defenders, Dehumanizer, and MoR. Piece of Mind is another I'm very thankful he brought along.

And I'll be borrowing Sabotage and Prudence and Dimanche a Bamako from Billy.

I'd assume you'd listen to one, then return it, then listen to another. Repeat as needed to listen to the other albums.

We'll need sign-up sheets for sure.

For all of the buying and trading and giving of records back in the day, I only ever lent one out, one time. Ever. And nobody in the circle of folks I ran with ever did, either.

It seems odd thinking about it now, but I would give someone a record before I lent it to them. If they wanted to hear it, they'd have to come over to my place, and vice-versa. We just never lent records, and we were a tight-knit group of people who trusted each other. I would trust that if I gave a record to someone, at some point they'd be giving me something I didn't have.

But there was no trust in lending, because vinyl was sacrosanct. I'd have had an easier time of it if they were fooling with my girlfriend than getting their greasy fingerprints all over one of my records.

So this is somewhat of a foreign concept to me. This...borrowing records thing. But I'm open minded, and given the stranded nature of our circumstance, I'm willing to be cool with it. Plus there is a lot of tunes you all brought that I need to hear.

And like KDC stated, I'll eventually borrow everything from everyone. But the following are first on my list:

Your missive rings true Vyn. I rarely if at all leant my vinyl out. The one time I can remember I did, l leant out my Master of Puppets original MFN pressing to a girl who I was not only wanting to get in her pants but was also wanting to spread the word of Metallica to, this was pre AJFA.

It came back months later(only after me constantly asking after it) scratched to the shithouse. Cover was ok but the vinyl itself was completely trashed. I was very upset and distraught about it(still am) but had to bite my lip as my brother was dating her sister. To rub salt into the wound I never ended up getting her in the sack as my brother broke up with the sister a month or so later. Never again have I leant out my vinyl since. Not even to family or closest friends.

Just thinking, in retrospect I should’ve included State of Euphoria and The Wake of Magellan from Chargers list. They’re far from my favourite albums from them but they’re the only albums we have and I’m a big fan of both bands so should’ve added them.

Oh man, I just got sick reading about misused vinyl. It really *is* a visceral thing. CDs come back trashed? Well, at least I ripped the MP3s. Tapes come back wrecked? Hey, stuff breaks, no biggie.

But vinyl? Dude, I thought you cared!

I leant out some cds back in the day to some buddies from school...some came back okay, some came back busted and some didn't come back at all...so that ended that thing pretty quickly.

Looks like Jack brought the goods as I'll be raiding his stash more than anyone elses! Might have been a bad idea to bring so many classics 'ey Jack? Since you might not be able to listen much of them at all as they'll all be in circulation constantly!


As far as Billy goes he would have brought the first Sabbath album along with Sabotage and NSD (which for the life of me I would not borrow!) He's also probably had brought a bunch of norwegian black metal which most of us (part from Thel maybe) would have never had even heard of...maybe some norwegian folk music as well as he was into that stuff too...Maiden's Killer, some early Priest as well I think...

Castaway - Week 1

Whilst holidaying aboard the cruise liner Mayhem! a mutiny by the passengers over the nauseatingly godawful food served in the dining room takes place. It was quickly subdued by the ruthless crew (who knew they had clubs with nails in!), and the leaders of the revolt were set adrift in a lifeboat with their possessions and some rations.

(Shortly after a meteor struck and sunk the Mayhem! it was generally considered to be an act of god by those in the lifeboat.)

The plucky castaways were adrift for a few days before running aground on an uncharted island in the South Pacific. The giant "HELP" message picked out with stones on the beach and the skeletons nearby didn't dampen their spirts.

Day 1 - The castaways set-up camp. Kilo and Zs find caves in the side of an active volcano, Thel and Charger manufacture tents using bamboo and giant leaves. Jack states that he's an Aussie and will sleep under the stars. Vyn occupies one of the numerous native huts on the over side of the ridge.

Supplies are good -there are ample solar powered sound systems for everyone. Oh, and there's a spring, some mangos, bananas, dodos, crabs and giant turtles to eat.

Day 2 - Whilst searching the island Thel and Charger discover some marijuana plants, they keep this news to themselves... they are not seen for some days, it is presumed that they have gone fishing. A strange smoky smell permeates the air.

Day 3 - Vyn is trying to make a radio from bits of bamboo and coconut. Kilo has built a throne from bones of animals he finds on the beach. Jack has rigged up an basic club from a shark spine and its jaw-bone.

Day 4 - Zs returns a record he has borrowed from Jack... there is a noticeable scratch on side B.

Vyn places Zs in the recovery position and resumes making an outboard motor from palm leaves and turtle shells.

Day 5 - Disaster. It is overcast and raining... and the solar powered sound systems don't work. We have to talk to each other... this does not go well!

Day 6 - Thel and Charger return but they don't have any fish, what have they been up to?! Zs awakens from his coma.

Day 7 - Some debris from the Mayhem! washes ashore, a crate of nice wine and many crates of beer.  Everyone gets drunk.

Day 8 - Still delirious, Z screams, "I FORGOT MY BOLIN ALBUMS!!!"
