Day 2

I've gone with the first horror film that actually gave me the creeps. 1980s The Changeling was a ghost story which relied on atmosphere and tension; there was little blood and certainly no jump-scares which have become the hallmark of modern horror films.

Day 2

One of the scariest movies I saw as a kid was this one...I remember actually flinching when I saw the skinned bodies on the tree. Great memories. I must have been 11 or 12 at the time...and this was one of the movies that started my love with all things sci-fi and horror and action.

Day 1

Sort of a cheat but I wasn't using up 3 slots on this franchise! A great trilogy and final part is quite probably the best film ever made!

I got a feeling my list is going to be very unique. :D

I was newly married and this movie started running on cable. My wife and I watched it, loved it, and watched it every time it came on. After we watched it for the 3rd or 4th time, my wife turned to me and said, "I need a baby."

And she meant it. My lawless years were behind me and my child-rearing years lay ahead. :D We've always loved the film and quote it constantly. Our first knows that this was the movie that got the ball rolling. :smug:

So, yes, very impacted me, this movie did.

Day 4

Alien

A brilliantly paced and stylish sci fi horror thriller packed with suspense and terror. Masterfully directed by Ridley Scott with great production design and music and a career making performance from Sigourney Weaver. I remember vividly my dad took us to see Alien at the movies and it was the first time I’ve ever been scared at the cinema and has stayed with me ever since, especially the chest bursting scene.

Alien set the bar in suspenseful horror and chilling terror which to this day has never been bettered.

Absolute masterpiece! Sergio Leone’s epic gangster tale. One of the great gangster movies.

Mate it seems we have a lot more in common than just music. Unreal, that’s 3 movies and we haven’t got to the other movie yet that I’m sure you’re gonna have as well.

A great story, stellar cast. It was this or Shawshank Redemption.

The Thing would have been on my list, so would have been Alien and Star Wars... So I guess I have to find others... :)

So gotta go with my all time favourite STAR TREK movie then. This also I think was my first ST movie I ever saw...I know for a fact it was my first one I ever bought on VHS.

I loved the original series but The Next Generation just raised the bar on all sci-fi shows at the time...it was unlike anything else...and the cast was just perfect. When they jumped into the movies they sure made it big...

First saw this on VHS, thought it was a dumb mass-produced anime movie at first until I read the blurb on the back with Roger Ebert going nuts over how awesome he thought it was. Now, I trusted Ebert for kids' movies, and if that popcorn hound gave it a golden thumb up, I was down with that.

And I've been a Miyazaki fan ever since. Yes, this is a kids' movie, but it's also an adults' movie. Beautiful story, compelling animation, and a magical spirit combine to make this a perfect gateway to the work of that gifted director. He's absolutely on the same level as Kurosawa, from this and other films.

Day 5

Mad Max 2

A totally engrossing awe-inspiring post-apocalyptic action film with bad ass characters and bad ass cars. The stunts and chase scenes are incredible and all real with no CGI or special effects. Mad Max 2 is as good as action films get, directed by the absolute master of the craft in George Miller and stunningly shot by another master in Dean Semler with a stirring soundtrack by Brian May.

I saw it at the movies when it came out and it instantly became my favourite movie and have been obsessed with it ever since...So much so, I collect everything I can find on this movie, original movie posters, program, soundtrack, auto-art model cars and figurines. I even bought a similar model of car as Max’s V8 interceptor for my first car.

Love, love, love this movie...

... and our common list goes on Jack !THE action movie.
Max driving his Interceptor, his short-barreled gun, his dog, his outfits, the autogire guy ... and the mighty Vernon Wells as Wes !!  those crazy cars chases. Outstanding movie.
My first "Metal" movie, without knowing it at the time. :pub:

This film upset me forever. Unmatched since its release by the very good Red Dragon or by the so so  Hannibal.
The score signed by  Howard Shore contributes to the depressive anxiety . An intensity rarely achieved born of this ambiguous relationship between Clarice and Lecter. The scenes in the jail are just exceptional, the two characters only separated by this armored glass. Chilling.
The last scene showing Lecter under a white hat chasing this bastard Chilton just after his arrival in the Bahamas ... so Evil.
