No doubt I was in a good mood to watch this movie last night, broadcasted on television.
Surprisingly good, the story seriously moved me without being unprecedented. I don't know, the ecological message, the massacre of trees and unspoiled nature, the cruelty of Man, Even also all those little sweetie noises of Elliot the dragon, so much more respectful and "human" than us. ...
I also think that my growing sensitivity to animal suffering makes me see things differently over the years that go by.

Saturday Night Sci-Fi

A team of international astronauts are sent on a dangerous mission to reignite the dying Sun with a nuclear fission bomb in 2057.  Good effects and realistic dangers made this film entertaining to watch. 7.5/10

I watched Soul on Disney+ over the new year. The latest Pixar film which went to streaming services rather than getting a theatrical release because of the pandemic.

It's a good addition to the Pixar catalogue, although not quite up there with their very best, it stars Jamie Foxx and Tina Fey, with support from Graham Norton, Richard Ayoade and Alice Braga.

Joe (Foxx) is a music teacher in a school looking for a break as jazz a pianist. He gets a chance at a music venue and immediately falls down an open manhole. His soul is left in limbo and in order to get back he needs to escort an unattached soul (Fey) until he can work out how to get back.

It's probably most similar to Inside Out but is a more simple story, but it's a good film even so, but may have worked better on the big screen. 8.5/10

This good action movie is worth it just for the presence of the scorching January Jones but also the always excellent Bruno Ganz.
But my God, they must avoid filming Liam Neeson walking. What an unsightly walk for an actor of this stature.

Just watched Short Eyes, a drama set in The Tombs in NYC.

"Gritty" ain't the half of it. Written by a former inmate, it's ferocious in its honesty.

A scientist doing experiments on a human fetus discovers a method to accelerate the fetus into a mature adult in just a few days.  However, the "adult" fetus turns into a homicidal psycho.  Good acting and interesting plot. 7.5/10

Despite a very pleasant movie to watch, the story is sorely lacking in meaning and rhythm. We're bored for at least the first hour. I really like DC comics movies, but here I cannot defend this scenario void. Ok I have a little weakness for Gal Gadot (who doesn't?) But Chris Pine is still awful. Special mention for the gorgeous blonde Kristen Wiig and the - again -  excellent Pedro Pascal.

Last one we watched was 1983's WarGames.

Good gosh how technology has changed!

Family picked "The Greatest Showman" last night. My wife and daughter were having a great time with it, humming along with the songs. I hated it, totally empty of substance, like an Elvis Presley movie - and I watched a bit of Blue Hawaii, just to be sure. Ugh.

Saturday Night Sci-Fi

In the colorful future, a cab driver unwittingly becomes the central figure in the search for a legendary cosmic weapon to keep Evil and Mr. Zorg at bay.  In fact, it was so colorful that the overall story gets lost.  Visually entertaining though. 6.5/10

Believe me, there is no story at all.
An incredible cast (Ian Holm and Gary Oldman !!) for such an awful movie has always amazed me. Luc Besson was barely 20 years old when he wrote this "script". What a joke ! The costumes signed Jean-Paul Gaultier and the unbearable performance of Chris Tucker add a little more to the wreck of this thing. To forget very quickly.

Ah, and it's one of my favorites, as the action keeps going in it and the design of both sets and costumes matches the worlds first made by Moebius in Metal Hurlant. :D It's comic-book fun that never loses its heart, even if there's no story getting in the way of the plot.

I've always enjoyed Fifth Element a lot as well. It's a lot of fun.  Hands down Besson's best movie!

It's a while since I saw the Fifth Element* but I remember it was ok, but Bessons best film is Leon (IMO)

* I typed the Fifth Elephant first! Terry Pratchett's book is more imbedded in my sub-conscious than the film!

Agree with both you and Typhon’s sentiments. Visually stunning but most everything else is atrocious.
