Saturday Night Sci-Fi

A secret government research project tries reviving the World War II "Philadelphia Experiment," which was an attempt to create a cloaking device to render warships invisible.  Interesting take involving time travel. 7.5/10

Stone cold classic. I really need to watch it again, I've probably not seen it this century!

Agreed and yes I too have last seen it in the 20th century. Need to check it out at some point.

Also Iced Earth wrote a pretty good song about that one:

The Omen along with Psycho were two movies that genuinely scared the hell out of me as a kid.

Does a pretty decent job on adults too.  >:D

I always really enjoyed this one even though it gets roasted by the critics. 7.5/10

LOOPER

In the 2040s there's a group of people called the Loopers who kill people sent back in time from the 2070. Joe is one of them and then on one day he gets face to face with his future self who he is supposed to kill, but the hesitates and his future self gets better of him and goes on a mission to safe his future wife's life by going after the child who will eventually become a fierce mass murderer.

The premise for the movie is quite excellent but the execution ends up being quite lacking. Both Joseph Gordon-Lewitt and Bruce Willis do a good job playing Joe but the story just gets bit boring after a great start and in the end becomes bit too predictable and then in the end bit too mushy emotionally. Very uncharacteristic for what is supposed to be a tough action flick.

It is a real shame that writer/director Rian Johnson couldn't hold the story together. This could have been a great buddy movie with a twist but it turned out to be nothing of the sort and that was a real missed opportunity and especially a real waste of Bruce Willis' immense talent who in this remains almost like a background preformer.
Then mixing it all with a supernatural element was just borderline silly.

Emily Blunt was good but the brilliant Jeff Daniels never even had a chance.

A story of wasted possibilities this movie...quite unfortunate.

Saturday Night Sci-Fi

Set in a futuristic world where humans live in isolation and interact through surrogate robots, a cop is forced to leave his home for the first time in years in order to investigate the murders of others' surrogates.  Interesting and entertainingly done. 8/10

I remember seeing that advertised on cable decades ago... gave it a miss then, didn't want to have my head spinning too much.

This was entertaining and a fun big budget blockbuster. The story however, along with the acting is C movie quality.
It did have some impressive CGI and the set pieces are great. 6.5/10
