I have been watching some Hammer Horror movies lately for the spooky season
I see that you Typhon are a
fan of Hammer and I believe that you where the one who introduced me to them on the old website
I really enjoyed the ones with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee

Peter Cushing is one of my all time favourites!

There's one movie that I have been searching for years but haven't been able to find called Island Of Terror which I saw when I was a kid on tv and it was truly scary and atmospheric! Wish I could see that one again one day!

Don't think that one was Hammer's work though...

Really? Wow. I remember (been some years though) searching high and low and nothing...might have to check it out if it be on amazon.de as well so I wouldn't have to pay customs fees for it!

Good memory, Thel.   :)
I own nearly all of Hammer's movies other than their comedies.  I also collect the films from Hammer's 2 smaller competitors, Amicus and Tigon Studios, as well as other films with Peter Cushing or Christopher Lee.

The Ghoul (1975)

A young upper class couple find themselves stranded in a foggy wooded area because their car runs out of petrol.  While the guy sets out to find more, the girl (Veronica Carlson) searches the area and discovers a large house whose owner (Peter Cushing) welcomes her in.  But activities happening in this house can be dangerous.  The scrawny looking caretaker (John Hurt), is no prize either.  Good suspense in an eerie environment.  8/10

If anyone else in the Community would like me to send them a group of very good films that you probably have not seen, like I did with Charger, I would be delighted to do so.  :)  Just PM me your mailing address and the make and model of your disc player or television, so I can make sure the file format is compatible with your device.  You can also name any film you want included in the group, because it is highly likely I would have access to it.

I, Monster (1971)

From Amicus Productions, at their gentlemen's club, Dr. Marlowe (Christopher Lee) claims there is good and evil in everyone, and is working on a drug that releases one's inner inhibitions in order to prove his theory.  After successfully trying the drug on a couple of his patients, his friend Dr. Utterson (Peter Cushing) wonders if the results can be repeated.  Not wanting to continue to use his patients as guinea pigs, he starts using the drug shots on himself.  Set in early 20th England, this Jekyll & Hyde themed film is superb.  Fine acting in a dark foggy London atmosphere.  9/10

The Nanny (1965)

From Hammer Studios, 10-year-old Joey arrives back from the psychiatric ward he's been in for two years, since the death of his younger sister. Joey refuses to eat any food the live-in Nanny (Bette Davis) prepares or take a bath with her in the room. He also demands to sleep in a room with a lock. Joey's parents -- workaholic Bill and neurotic Virgie -- are sure Joey is disturbed, but he may have good reason to be terrified of the Nanny.  7/10

Circus of Horrors (1960)

A plastic surgeon (Anton Diffring) and his nurse join a small circus to escape from the police. Here he befriends deformed women and transforms them into beautiful performers.  However, if any of them try to leave the circus, they meet with mysterious accidents.  I recognized Anton Diffring from several Hammer and Amicus films, which is why I checked out this little known movie, and I'm glad I did.  8/10

End of the World (1977)

After seeing a man die in a strange accident, Father Pergado (Christopher Lee) visits a retreat where he meets his alien duplicate who plans to conquer Earth.  A cheap low-budget film not really worth anyone's time.  4/10

The City of the Dead (1960)

Professor Driscoll (Christopher Lee) teaches his university class of the witch burnings that took place 100 years earlier in Whitewood, Massachusetts, prompting one of his students to take a trip to Whitewood in order to research the town's history.  The student never returns.  Good suspense and especially interesting for me because the setting is my home state.  8/10

For historical clarification:  There is no such town called Whitewood, and there have never been any witch burnings in Massachusetts or anywhere else in New England.  In the 17th century, there were a number of people accused of witchcraft, some of which were executed by hanging.  This took place in Salem, Massachusetts.

HALLOWEEN SPECIAL pt. 1

GALAXY OF TERROR

A rescue team is sent to a mysterious planet by The Master in order to find a crashed ship and it's crew. As soon as they land on the planet they find themselves in a world of trouble with strange beings killing the team off one by one.

A solid b-movie from the early 80s. The story has a lot of potential and the creatures could have been great...hell it even has a gigantic worm raping a woman!

But the shoe string budget shows and the acting is about as stiff as you'd expect and the dialogue is terrible. There are 3 actors in this that I knew well and one that I recognized. Robert Englund, Sid Haig and Ray Walston...the one I recognized was Grace Zabriskie from various little tv roles. The rest I've never heard of and seemingly for a reason. The horror elements are there but the effects are just too bad...

But oh boy is it campy! Oh yes it is!

FUN FACT: This is the first ever collaboration between Bill Paxton and James Cameron. Cameron being the Art Director and Second Unit Director for the film and he recommended his friend Bill Paxton for Set Dresser!
