Personal Bests

I'm thinking of Billy's avatar as I write this. When he talked about mountain climbing, it was clear that those were his most cherished of times. I call that a "personal best" moment, as in when one of us feels personally at our best, our most satisfied, our most happy of states. It could be quiet, it could be loud, but it's when we are feeling our best feelings.

And there can be more than one. This is no top 1 list. :smug:

For me, I feel a goodness when I get to take in a sunrise. Wherever I am, if I'm up just before the dawn, I try to make the time to spend some moments with the sun as it breaks the horizon and begins its daily climb. My favorite sunrise of all was at The Grand Canyon, where I got up plenty early to trip over rocks and get out to the point where other photographers stood to watch the sunrise and to take pictures of the colors around us as they changed.

I'll always remember that in that moment, little children had no trouble finding marvel in the closest star appearing and casting shadows far behind them... but a group of teenagers had their heads down, texting away and ignorant of the magic around them. Oh well, their loss. Me, the children, and the old folks, we had us a ball!
