Checking out some Rolling Stones that I'd never heard before, liking what I hear.

Came across this one from a band called DEATH DEALER featuring former Manowar guitarist Ross The Boss.

Sounds pretty good!

AC/DC - Power Up


well , if I note it, I give it 5/10.
3 killer tracks: Realize, Shot in the Dark and Demon Fire (the only up tempo of the album)
4 good to medium tracks: Through the Mist of Time, Witch's Spell, Systems Down and Money Shot.
5 mediocre tracks that ruin the whole thing: Rejection (the worst of the album), Kick When You're Down, Wild Reputation, No Man's Land and Code Red.
Listening to these 5 titles weighs down the rest, painful to listen to.
Most of the songs are between 3 'and 3'30, very few intro that captures the attention, the solos are so short you don't remember any and that sound so formatted, so clean. No roughness. The whole thing is way too ultra-compressed. The worst thing for me is the abuse of the use of these backing vocals and too much emphasis in the mix. it kills all dynamic. really a shame.
Angus announced that most of these riffs date from the Black Ice sessions that were also used to compose Rock or Bust and that he had to remake another album with the rest of the material. Out of respect for the legacy of this band I love for many decades , Angus, leave them in the archives crypt.

^Hard not to disagree with you there Tyr, although I’d probably give it 6 or 6.5. Take each track in isolation and they ain’t bad but listening to the whole album in it’s entirety leaves you wanting more. Two tracks in and I was hankering for a fast uptempo rocker which you don’t get until track 7 Demon Fire and then there ain’t many more after that. You’re right about the riffs and solos, they’re adequate but nothing really hooks you and burns itself in the memory bank.
For an album that’s called Power Up it seems to be a major ingredient that is missing. Production is lifeless and just not heavy or in your face enough. It’s too clean sounding.

It’s not a bad album at all but it’s not very good either. Certainly not deserving of the praise it’s mostly been getting. Do have to say Brian sounds pretty great on it though and is one of the few highlights of the album and I appreciate that he’s doing some different things on there.

I've the same feeling about listening to it track by track and not the whole album. This morning, a national radio station was playing "Through The Mists Of Time !! (dedicated to Malcolm). Very surprised to hear that on this radio station, more favorable to the sugary electro-pop of our " intellectual "artists who abound on the waves . I enjoyed the track, which took me by surprise, I must admit.
After the teaser effect of the launched communication campaign, I'm left hungry. The album is not really bad but I would have liked so much to go and buy it in red vinyl with pleasure - when the stores will be open !! - but I feel like I took a cold shower ... I was hoping for so much more.

From the Anathema album "Distant Satellites" released in 2014. I'm still a huge fan of this Atmospheric Rock band. This album is just fantastic. A guy had the good idea to make this video with the 3 parts of this touching "Lost Song" (Part. 1,2 and 3). The vocal parts between Vincent Cavanagh and Lee Douglas are sublime.
The song deals with the encounter with God.
