New Phone
« on: October 17, 2019, 03:32:40 PM »
I do a Forever Samsung deal where I trade in for the new model each year. I'm upgrading from Note 9 to Note 10. I have all my data copied over *except* my music.

Music is 142 GB, over 38,000 files.

Started the copy a few minutes ago... 4 hours and 15 minutes left...  :glitch:

I only had 128GB of storage on the old phone, this one has 256GB, so I can copy 'em all, given enough time. But when I upgrade next year, I'll want to copy every thing over BUT the music in the store and leave the tunes for when I get home. I have no video or other files on it, so the other data just takes about 20 mins to copy.

But yeah, 38K files. Gonna have a good time with those!  :smug: :headbanger:

^^^^^^
On my media computer is 120GB of classical music which equals 9,787 files.  The reason the space used is about the same for only 1/4 the files is because I do not store music files using a compressed data format.  It lowers the quality of the sound.  You are not hearing your music the way it was meant to be heard.

Why in the heck don't you use a memory card? Makes things hell of a lot easier...just swap the card to the new phone and boom back in business. That's what I've been doing for 5 phone swaps now.

There are a bunch of older MP3s or MP3s of music that wasn't intended to be heard the way serious music is intended to be heard. For example, "Purple People Eater" by Sheb Woolley. Not really needing the hi-fi treatment on THAT one...

Didn't use a SDRAM card on the earlier phone because it didn't come with a slot for one. :(

As for my older MP3s, I ripped those in days when HD space was at a premium, 128, 112 Kpbs or less. Now I download them at 320 Kpbs quality. That's a swing of less than a MB/minute of the song to 2MB+/minute.

Oh...that's riduculous. I'd never buy a phone without memory card slot.

I have noticed that lot of new phones are again omitting that...which I find stupid. I know Huawei, Samsung and ofcourse crApple have already removed those slots...  :squint:

I'm still rolling with an iPhone 6S. Probably need to update shortly. Battery life is no longer good. Can lose 20% with a less than a minute surf of the net. Not convinced with the 11 Pro though. Might just go with an 8. The iPhone carrier plans/deals are getting more & more expensive with each new iPhone.

Mine does not have a slot, but 95% of the time I use the device for calls and texting.  Never music.

JtS: Refurbished iPhone 8s are going for pretty good deals, might want to look in on one of those.

Typhon: I do a lot of travel, so in the plane or the rental car, my phone is my music device. (Cue Bob Seger's "Turn the Page")

I don't use it much for that either...only when I'm running actually. But the memory card is also good for picture storage.

I like to take my pics off my phone and keep them on my fileserver/cloud storage so I can have them sorted out in folders and stuff.
