The Album Anniversary Thread!
« on: October 16, 2019, 07:42:31 AM »
I thought we could celebrate albums of our favourite bands in this way as well saying happy birthday to them!

So a small introduction and maybe a short own opinion on the album in question...and ofcourse discussion.

I'll kick things off with the last good Ozzy album which was released October 16th 2001.

I remember when the album came out I was super excited about it and it didn't disappoint. And it has remained the last good Ozzy album and one that's right up there with the classics.

Stand out tracks are Gets Me Through, Facing Hell That I Never Had, Junkie and Black Illusion...but ofcourse this being an Ozzy album there has to be that one real stinker too and here it's Dreamer...talk about a cheesy overly commercial radio friendly piece of crap ballad...good lord. I remember the first time I heard it it made me want to puke...and it still does.  The other obligatory ballad Running Out Of Time is much better.

There really are only 5 Ozzy albums I listen to anymore and this is one of them.

So HAPPY 18th BIRTHDAY DOWN TO EARTH! Can't believe you're old enough to drive and buy beer already!

I have no clue of the exact release dates of my favorites, so when I see someone else mention one of them, then I shall comment.  :)

https://drrockblog.wordpress.com/tag/albums-released-this-week/ looks like a good resource for this thread... :smug:

Hey, cool, two Three Dog Night albums came out on this day, a year apart.

Happy 19th Anniversary to the first (official  ;D ) Tony Iommi solo album!

Tony found a great lineup of singers for this one eventhough he didn't use any "classic" singers from his own era so to speak.
Tracks with Peter Steele (RIP), Ian Astbury, Billy Idol (!!!) and Phil Anselmo are all killer...hell he even made Billy Corgan (of yucky Smashing Pumpkins) sound good!

Today is also the birthday of 12x5 by The Rolling Stones. An excellent album, love their stuff pre-1967.

HAPPY 20th ANNIVERSARY to one of my favourite non metal albums MELANIE C's NORTHERN STAR!!!!

I was something of a Spice Girls fan but to me already back then Melanie was the one that I really liked and finding out she made a solo album was like a dream come true. And she didn't disappoint. She also went bit more rockier sound with few tracks which was brilliant eventhough she kept a certain poppy edge as well. But her voice is beyond sublime and she proved she can write stuff too.

Can't believe it's been 20 years though...

HAPPY 6th ANNIVERSARY to Motörhead's AFTERSHOCK!

This was around the time I really got into Motörhead as for some reason I hadn't gotten into them much earlier so I bought this right away. A great album. Very solid and Queen Of The Damned is one of their best tracks ever.

Never heard of them, and probably don't want to.   :smug:

HAPPY 21st ANNIVERSARY to BLACK SABBATH's REUNION!

Their first official live album with Ozzy.
This is a great live recording. I've always enjoyed it a lot...the raw sound of it, the lack of overdubs (you can actually hear when Ozzy loses a note or screws up) and the setlist was great. Spiral Architect, Behind The Wall Of Sleep and Lord Of This World! Songs that weren't played that much even back in the 70s.

The two new tracks weren't anything too special, but Selling My Soul still rocks though...Psycho Man still sounds like a throw away Ozzy solo track with incredibly silly lyrics.
