Nirvana?!? Okay I am really struggling not to think any less of you now because of this...  ;D
Remember now, I do not hold it against you the fact that you are unable to comprehend how good Never Say Die is.   ;D

Hahaha! Touché! :D

Steppenwolf is an interesting choice. Shows how little I know about them as I have always just considered them as a one hit wonder...  :-[

And Seventh Star?!?! Wow...I'd like to hear more about this..I do remember you talking about this before but memory isn't my strong suit.

Most of the songs/albums/bands I picked, take me back in time to different places in my life in the past, Thus the Seventh Star pick! Even though I tried to pick ones that would have an overall weight to them over the last 40 years, and not just lately, I also employed the "Burnout Factor". For example: I love the whole Led Zeppelin catalogue, but for the life of me, I can only bring myself to listen to the deep cuts now. If I never heard Stairway to Heaven ever again, That'd be awesome! Also burnt out on Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon", Most music by Jimi Hendrix, except for the posthumous stuff, Purple's "Machine Head" (Except for Pictures of Home and Never Before), and even Sabbath's "Paranoid", except for "Planet Caravan". I've always liked Steppenwolf, but moreso in the last 10 years. I could have easily tossed in the "At Your Birthday Party" album because of "It's Never Too Late", Jupiter's Child" and "Rock Me".
I guess in this case, Your Steppenwolf is my Savatage Charger. I was always aware of Savatage as a band, but never gave them a fair listen, as I was more into Thrash back in them days. I remember seeing ads for "Hall Of The Mountain King" in things like Hit Parader back then, it probably didn't resonate with me at the time. I'll have to give Savatage a listen, I've found that my musical tastes have changed a lot since then. Cheers!!

@KDC

Listened to the New Model Army stuff and I have to sadly say wasn't my cup of tea.

@Axefiend

That's a very understandable way to pick songs too. There are some albums and bands that leave such a huge impact at some point in time that they resonate forever. Like Dehumanizer is for me.

I do also have to agree that over playing can cause damage too...I know that most certainly has happened to me with the Paranoid album. And yikes...Stairway To Heaven...when ever that song comes on the radio I'm turning it off. ;D

I can fully understand your position on Savatage too. They did kind of get left in the shadow of Thrash as that was what the metal world expected to come from the US at the time and Savatage was much more melodic classic heavy metal with piano thrown in! Not something for everyone. I would highly recommend opening the door on Savatage again...hopefully it will resonate now more. :)

If I hear "Stairway to Heaven" again, it'll be the O'Jays song by that name. :smug:

OK, this is a good challenge... just 3, then 3, then 3...

DEEP PURPLE: This band blew my mind when I was in 8th grade. I had all of Zeppelin's catalog, which was fun, but this band was the one that I *HAD TO HAVE!!!* firstest and mostest.

1. Machine Head: Highway Star, Pictures of Home, Space Truckin'... these songs don't get old for me, ever.
2. Purpendicular: Cascades, Ted the Mechanic, Don't Hold Your Breath... best album of the Morse years, always like returning to it.
3. Come Taste the Band: Drifter, Comin' Home, This Time Around... It took some maturity on my part to finally "get" this album and Tommy Bolin as a guitar player. Love it.

STEELY DAN: I got into them when I was around 30 years old. This band's music works so much better when you have some life behind you.

1. Aja: Josie, Deacon Blues, Peg... When the weather finally turns cool here and I can open my windows for the fall breezes, this album is one of the first I play to celebrate that change of season.
2. Gaucho: Time Out of Mind, Glamour Profession, Babylon Sister... Really, any 3 from this album will do me just fine. This is a sweet ride for me.
3. The Royal Scam: The Royal Scam, Kid Charlemagne, Sign in Stranger... When I get writers' block, this album helps to clear it out. Great storytelling on this album.

TOMMY BOLIN: Only has 2 albums, but they are exquisite.

1. Teaser: The Grind, Teaser, Wild Dogs... Yeah, the jewels in the crown, these three, especially the passionate "Wild Dogs." Playing this album right now. :)
2. Private Eyes: Bustin' Out for Rosey, Post Toastee, Someday We'll Bring Our Love Home... best of the best is "Post Toastee", which I say can be the right song for ANY time, ANY where. Awesome track, that one.

I'll have Rory Gallagher's Photo Finish guest as the 3rd album: Shin Kicker, Overnight Bag, Fuel to the Fire... my first Rory Gallagher album, and the one I love the most. Great, passionate blues-rock tracks.

That's okay, they are an acquired taste... I think Zs quite liked the first two NMA albums on my list!

Ah interesting to see Judas Priest on your list Jack. I didn't expect that.

Sad Wings as your favourite? That's also an interesting choice. Great song picks though... For me The Ripper would be take over Island.

I'm surprised to see Fade To Black instead of the title track...

I had the title track but changed it to Fade. Fade To Black was a groundbreaking song when it came out and the subject matter really spoke to me as a teenager at the time. The song is a classic, very moody!

As for Priest, they've always been one of my favourite bands. They've tended to be interchangeable with Maiden over the years as to who I love more but as the years have gone on I've more settled with Priest being the band of choice. I probably still listen to them more than any other band outside of Sabbath.

Don't Hold Your Breath over Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming? That's an interesting choice...and I have to say I haven't heard that song in a long time as I don't have the japanese version...I think I have to go youtubing for that one again...been so long I can't even remember it!

If Deep Purple would have made it my list Purpendicular would most CERTAINLY be on top 3 on second place for sure! Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming, Hey Cisco and Ted or Rosa...can't decide between those two honestly.

Come Taste The Band is also a bold choice...I can't get into that one myself to be honest. Quite un Purple-ly album.

To be honest, CTTB made a Bolin fan out of me. It *is* very different from Mk2 or Mk3 Purple, very funky stuff on most tracks. But it's also fresh and fun, so I like going back to it time and again.

As for DHYB > SIFLS, well, I had to pick just 3, dammit! SIFLS often requires I be in the right mood to really appreciate it, while DHYB is one I can put on just about any time and have fun with.
