McDonald’s in a pickle over April Fools’ Day prank gone wrong

An April Fool’s Day prank by McDonald’s in Australia backfired in a big way for the fast-food chain.  Angry customers lashed out after they learned that the advertised new burger, the McPickle, was not actually going to be added to the McDonald’s menu in Australia.

“Pickle lovers, it’s the news you’ve all been waiting for. We’re super stoked to announce the launch of our brand new McPickle Burger,” a post on Instagram read. “It’s time to tuck into juicy, flavoursome pickles layered between melted cheese, ketchup sauce and toasted sesame seed buns. It’s sure to be a treat for all your senses. #dailynuggets #mcpickle #pickleoverload #maccas #imlovinit”

The new menu item instantly picked up fans as Instagram users celebrated the two-layered burger filled with pickles, cheese and ketchup.

“I want this now,” one comment declared.

“I’m gonna order 1000,” another wrote.

“Omg it’s a burger designed for me,” one comment read.

But the celebrating was short-lived as it became clear that McDonald’s had pulled a fast one.

“This shouldn’t be a joke,” one person commented, while another wrote, “why does this have to be an April fools prank.”

There were some angry reactions on Twitter as well.

I guess those Aussies sure like pickles.  :)

^ Eugh. I can't stand pickles. Glad it's a joke.

FUN FACT: in France, it's April Fish Day.

I wrote and posted this elsewhere a long time ago...

Considering that Blow on a Jug includes only half of the band, it is clear that, whereas often dismissed as mere "studio noodling", Blow on a Jug serves to highlight just how incredibly talented Black Sabbath is.

In less than a minute, Ozzy and Bill create a sound-space that is at once both intimate and expansive. On its surface, the simplistic melody, stripped down instrumentation, and plaintive vocals recommend it for quick and easy categorization: "Aha, that's just some dudes messing about in the studio!" The more astute listener will be rewarded with so very much more…

"Blow on a jug," intones the vocalist. That masterpiece of wordsmithing is planted firmly in the musical ground, as if a banner which defies ignoring. Blow on a jug…reach beyond yourself, transcend the norm and self-actualize! The path to enlightenment lies this way, all you have to do is free your mind of the shackles that heretofore have been unseen, yet very real. You've thought yourself free? True freedom awaits...

"Everybody come on," sung with rousing emotion, serves as an invitation. An all-inclusive invitation; no one is excluded. The invitation, of course, is to blow on a jug.

"Be like me," he sings. The listener understands that he would not ask them to do something that he himself would not, in fact, do. Which as we all know by now, is blow on a jug.

"I want you to," cajoles the singer. He cares about you, he wants what is best and right for you, and makes his intention perfectly clear: he wants you to blow on a jug.

Finally, the assumption is made: with such a simple, easy, and positive activity who could possibly resist? "Everyone begin, blow on a jug." Ozzy and Bill know that you're smart, insightful, and want what is best for yourself, so rather than question whether or not you're going to blow on the jug, they are confident you made the right choice and provide you with a starting point. A beginning, if you will. Had Hollis Brown taken this good advice, it is certain he wouldn't have bought those seven shotgun shells. When is it time to blow on a jug? The time is now, my friend.

This turn of the discussion raises some questions:

1. Seventh Star...Iommi solo project or Black Sabbath masterpiece?

2. My flip flops...buy new ones for this summer or wait until the straps on these break?

3. RJD...a cock-gobbling midget or a tamer of tigers for all those rainbows in the dark?

4. Dave Walker...could he have led Black Sabbath onto heights even Ozzy in his prime couldn't achieve?

5. Genres...is Blackened Crust Punk really a thing or does someone have too much time on their hands?

1. SS is the best Iommi solo album to come out under the Black Sabbath band name in the 80s.

2. Have the new flip flops in your back pocket to minimize downtime.

3. RJD = tamer of tigers, next question please.

4. Yes.

5. Critics these days... sheesh...

1. Seventh Star...Iommi solo project or Black Sabbath masterpiece?= I'd like to think of Black Sabbath with at least two of the original members, but if it says Black Sabbath on the cover what choice do I have?

2. My flip flops...buy new ones for this summer or wait until the straps on these break? = Don't wear flip flops, just boots even in the summer time, not a beach goer.

3. RJD...a cock-gobbling midget or a tamer of tigers for all those rainbows in the dark? = Both bad descriptions.

4. Dave Walker...could he have led Black Sabbath onto heights even Ozzy in his prime couldn't achieve? = No of course not, this is just plain silly.

5. Genres...is Blackened Crust Punk really a thing or does someone have too much time on their hands?= Never heard of it, someone must have too much time on their hands.

Well, why not?  They could have easily recorded a Christmas single with Walker, and those things can catapult anyone to fame.

I bet Iommi is sitting on the master tapes for it. Maybe there were one or two acetates made, but no known pressings of a Walker-fronted Black Sabbath performing "Little Drummer Boy". Or was it "Santa Baby"?

For one track, it was actually the tune for "Blues for Christmas" . Lyrics were still formative, but mostly dealt with losing a loved one around that time of year, feelings of loss, etc. Of course, Ozzy refused to sing it, opining that he didn't want to have Sabbath be "... another [expletive deleted] Slade, singing 'Merry Christmas Everyone' every [expletive deleted] December to the end of [expletive deleted] time..." (Ozzy, it should be noted, was cited by Gordon Ramsay as one of his biggest influences growing up.)

Another track took a down-tuned version of Greensleeves, with the question "What child is this?" answered not in a religious fashion, but in a sort of "look at all the kids suffering" fashion. Ozzy's rant included the following barb: "Oh great, [expletive deleted] "Child in Time" for [expletive deleted] Christmas, just what we [expletive deleted] needed. I'm NOT [expletive deleted] screaming, if that's what you're [expletive deleted] thinking."

The third track was a cover of John Lennon's "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)", done pretty straightforward. The version with Walker sounds great - I got to hear it at a ***VERY SPECIAL*** Black Sabbath listening party - but Ozzy never got around to recording it. He was actually in favor of that one: "Now John [expletive deleted] Lennon, he can [expletive deleted] write a [expletive deleted] song!" There were, however, litigation concerns about dealing with material still under Apple's copyright control, so that one got shelved.
