US women’s soccer team slammed for ‘disgusting’ celebrations after every goal, disrespect to US flag

I don't follow soccer, but all I ever hear here in the U.S. is the women's soccer team complaining about unequal pay, complaining about the president, complaining about gay rights and the list goes on.  Well professional athletes who behave like this on the field of play, don't have the right to complain about others IMO.

https://www.bizpacreview.com/2019/06/12/us-womens-soccer-team-slammed-for-disgusting-celebrations-after-every-goal-disrespect-to-us-flag-764088?utm_campaign=bizpac&utm_content=Newsletter&utm_medium=Newsletter&utm_source=Get+Response&utm_term=EMAIL

I hope they draw a high ranked team and get slaughtered so they can know how it feels.

I saw some comments on that too...

Pretty gnarly behaviour if you ask me... Footsy is supposed to be a gentleman's sport after all...but then again these weren't men at all now were they...? I guess women do like to whip the opponent especially when they are down.

Very bad sportmanship all in all..

Moderation note: broke this off of the footy discussions, as it looks like it could turn political...

... and here's my response:

Ho hum, more misogynistic far-right propaganda horse hooey.

Women's soccer in the USA now exceeds men's soccer in terms of revenue generation, but the pay with bonuses for women is such that even if they win every game they play in, they make less money than a men's team that loses every game.

Showing up to play soccer is the job description. Equal pay for equal work usually helps settle that piece, but if we're going to go by house draw and factors like that, the women are putting more butts in seats nowadays and should be therefore paid *more* than the men.

And like either of you were going to approve of on-field political protests.

Running up the score, yeah, that's bad sportsmanship. But so what? If people are paying to see that, then they're still paying, right?

It's obvious from this and previous posts you both have issues with women that have strong personalities and contrasting views. Get over it, look at the bottom line, and realize that the USWNT has a point about pay.

Ehh...WHAT in the name of a holy fuck are you on about here?!?!

I guess you kind of missed the point about this whole thing...

I was NEVER about the goals. A good team can wipe the floor on a bad team...it happens there's nothing wrong with that. Nor should a team (no matter how much better they are) just stop playing after they have secured a win...ofcourse in footsy that happens a lot because the rounds are so long and especially in tournaments as there are a lot of matches and the players don't want to burn themselves out early on.

BUT the issue was about the unsportmanship excessive celebrations the US team took after goal #5 when the match was settled. You NEVER see that in men's games ever. The player who scores rarely even celebrates it more than maybe with a raised fist (if even that)...and that is good sportmanship. You don't want to overly shame the other team...BUT in this match the women kept doing that...jumping and cheering after the other team was already completely beat.

I don't understand at all where you got all this political nonsense here...let alone misogyny... It actually hurts me that you think so little of me...and of Typhon too...I don't understand this at all..and I am truly disappointed by your actions here now..

I would have said everything Charger just stated, but he beat me to it.  My post in the soccer thread was not to talk about pay gaps.  I don't give a damn what the women's soccer team thinks they should make.  My post was pointing out an arrogant team behaving like jackasses on the field.

In the future, if you can't follow what I am saying, then consult with other moderators before moving my posts to the wrong place.   >:(

Well in all fairness the same thing happened to a commentator and she even got some death threats for it:

https://www.tsn.ca/former-canadian-player-kaylyn-kyle-gets-death-threats-for-u-s-goal-celebration-criticism-on-tsn-1.1320944

This is the tolerant left here I suppose....

So I guess we got off easy here with zzz now though....

Hey, the post started with "I don't follow soccer, but all I ever hear here in the U.S. is the women's soccer team complaining about unequal pay..."

The link opened with a comment about the equal pay question. From a predominantly political site.

If you want to talk about team behavior, start with that, stay with that, and end with that. Try using links that don't mix up the pay issue with the celebration mess:

https://www.today.com/news/us-team-criticized-celebrating-during-women-s-world-cup-win-t156130

^Which, by the way, is supposedly a left-leaning news source.

But that would have kept it to the celebration issue, and I would absolutely agree that running up the score and putting on a display such as the USWNT did is shameful.

But the link Typhon used led with the pay issue, mentioned it in the middle, and ended with it. That's what made me determine it was too political for a footy thread. Feel free to go back and complain about the poor sportsmanship, and it'll stay there. Conflate it with other issues, then those should be broken out for members that really don't want to talk about politics. There was a lot of discomfort mentioned in the "We Are At War with Islam" thread, and I take that as a signal that we've got members that don't want to see the politics creep into other areas of the board. So, when I saw politics creeping into the footy thread, I took it out.

Moderation means just that. I didn't delete the comments, I didn't issue warnings, I didn't edit the comments. I moved them so that people that wanted to have a sports discussion wouldn't also get a political discussion.

Well there was nothing political about that until you had to make it into that...

Also if that's an appology it sucks.

That's not an apology, just an explanation. I wanted to be clear about where we should have a line drawn between the hot topics of religion/politics and everything else. If we want to keep a discussion apolitical, then we should not post links or make comment that has political tones. If one is unaware of such tones, well, the act of moderation to split out the topic is not judgmental in any way.

Although we don't have a rule against hot topic discussion, we also have members that don't want to mingle the waters. It was in that spirit that I moved to split the topic out.

And that's my explanation of the explanation.

This does warrant a response, and an apologetic one, as well. I wanted my day's work behind me before I responded, so that I wouldn't be distracted in the middle of composition. I do hope you will both understand my lateness in replying in that context and do not bear further hurt because of its delay.

My comment was made publicly, so my apology must be equally so. It must also be one that does not sting again. Apologies are for repairing bridges and mending fences so that they are not burned or trampled down.

To that end, I will retract my personal comments. I should not have jumped to the conclusion that I did, making such an accusation. It was wrong, and I do regret it because I do not want to cause pain in my comments. I want to teach or inform or defend, but not hurt.

The spirit of the forums here is one I do not want to damage with hurtful words towards the members here. We wanted to be able to discuss hot topics, and that, in turn, implies that we need to be ready to apologize when our tempers flare and we submit a post before fully thinking it through.

I'm not going to storm off in a righteous indignation. I don't think that's what anyone involved wants. I'm going to say I'm sorry, bite my tongue, and wish I hadn't said what I did - then I ask for forgiveness, but don't demand it or expect it to be public or private or anything. I just ask it and hope that we can continue to build something positive here.

Well you can call me a piece of shit, a loser, human garbage, ugliest man alive, waste of breath or what ever to that effect...cause...well...those are all true. But I do draw the line at misogynist.

Despite the fact that I have been belittled and badmouthed and dissed by all women for the better part of 30 years (for again valid reasons obviously) I take great pride in the fact that I still after all that have great respect for women and eventhough they can never like me, I do like them. Always have always will.

That is why it hurt me so to be called a misogynist.

Anyways that can be the end of this topic and I do accept your apology.

And for the record I did not read the whole link Typhon put up, but only the quotes at the end which made it clear to me it was about the unsportmanship of the team.

It seemed to me that I made it pretty clear what my original post was about with the title in bold letters, unless one is mentally challenged.

Hmmm I haven't heard that...but if someone want to try I am game...although an actual sack of shit would probably smell better while burning...
