Absolutely. He was exactly what the band needed after Blackmore's hard departure. The concerts Satriani did with DP are among their best live work.

I always thought Satriani did great job with the softer songs (like on the vid) but he lacked certain heaviness or punch or something needed for the heavier stuff...which is why I was happy they didn't carry on with him. Steve was a much better fit.

That being said he was a great short notice replacement for Ritchie no doubt about it.
