New Model Army

That's one I hadn't heard before we did that one H&H game with obscure-ish albums. Got me introduced to them as well as the Cranberries, both great bands.

Vyn got me turned on to Joni Mitchell, and I'm grateful for that.

Speaking of grateful, I'd say The Grateful Dead from about 1970-1973 are one of my perennial faves.

I also listen to a lot of game music from the 90s...especially from Frank Klepacki who did the music to all of the Command & Conquer series games.

For Texas folk music, I love Guy Clark. The man was a complete craftsman, even making his own guitars.

This is one of his greatest songs, describing the inevitable aging and waning winter days of life. It's so bittersweet and comforting, even though it makes me cry.

Enjoying the Guess Who right now. I think their peak years of production started with Canned Wheat and tapered to Rockin'. Before that, they're finding their way. After that, they're getting way too soft and ballad-y.

In my mind, they're not particularly "Hard Rock" in general, yes individual songs might earn that description, but much of their output I would describe as "soft rock", "prog rock" or "AOR", it doesn't have the crunching guitars to make it hard.

Rush does fit well in the prog camp, with extended works such as "By-Tor and the Snow Dog", "Fountain of Lamneth", "2112", "Cygnus X-1", and "Hemispheres". Other works do show a softer touch, especially "Lakeside Park", which I absolutely adore.

On the other hand, Barclay James Harvest they ain't. Nor are they Soft Machine or Fairport Convention.

I see.  You, and most members of The Community, are more knowledgeable than me on so many of these bands.

^^^
To be fair their first album was considered to be "Led Zeppelin-y" and might well be considered Hard Rock, but then Neil Peart joined and they went in a different direction.

Hmm...I have always put Rush into the progressive hard rock category myself....heck at times they were even proto-metal I'd say... The Temple Of Syrinx is a full on metal track in my book.

Absolutely, The Temple of Syrinx is a great example of where they are very heavy, and they do that style now and again, I would love if they had done more of that. The last two or three albums had a far more "rock" feel than they'd had for over 20 years (when they were doing their synth-pop-rock stuff).
