So I wake up this morning and put music on as usual and then I start hearing this guy yelling and smash around out in the hallway on my floor. So the fire alarm goes of and all of a sudden about ten police cars come screaming into our parking lot. Next thing I know there are cops everywhere and they all have either shotguns or machine guns. Well they storm my floor and go door to door. They get to my door and I open it and they have a shotgun and two machine guns point at my head!!!
Well they storm into my apartment yelling who are you and Is this your apartment and is there anyone else in here. I say no and they pull me out and come inside and search my room for someone.
Well this someone apparently has a gun and has already assaulted someone. They escort me outside and we had to stay out for more than four hours.
At one point it was so seriouis they had Snipers on the opposing buildings with their rifles trained on the apartment two down from me.
There is all kinds of rumor floating around but we should know what happened to resolve the situation in the near future which I will share with you. Having two machine guns and a shotgun pointed in my face is a life changing experience to say the least.

Saanich police say one man was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and there was no one with a weapon of any kind in or around the apartment building on Vernon Avenue following a report of a person with a firearm Friday morning.

At around 7 a.m., Saanich police were called to a report of a person with a weapon inside an apartment building in the 800-block of Vernon Avenue. According to police, the call originated after someone heard a man in the hallway talking about someone having a firearm, which prompted calls to 911 and the fire alarm being pulled.

Due to the nature of the call and to ensure public safety, the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team and a K9 team, along with the provincial ambulance service and the Saanich Fire Department. The apartment building was locked down while police searched. Residents were told to leave or shelter in place.

Officers focused on one particular apartment but no one or nothing of concern was found.

“We take all calls where someone’s safety may be at risk very seriously and will use whatever resources we have available to determine what has happened and to bring things to a safe conclusion,” said Sgt. Julie Fast, Saanich Police public information officer, said in a statement.

One man was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital for assessment.

Residents have returned to their apartments and all lanes on Vernon Avenue have reopened.

I of course had a meeting to go to but I do not think they would have appreciated me dressed in pajamas and a house coat

Wow, Thel.  Heck of a thing to deal with.  Sounds like you handled it well, though.  I have had 3 or 4 interactions with law enforcement in my life, but have never had any guns pointed at me.

Thanks - I am still a bit in shock that something like this happened at the place I live. The building has a good reputation for the most part so this was certainly out of the ordinary. The person that was taken into custody was apparently walking around the building naked  and was quacked out on crack cocaine according to a few of my neighbors, but it could be inaccurate gossiping on their part.
I have had dealings with police throughout my life and to be honest most of them were positive. It is the first time that I have had a shotgun and two machine guns pointed at me.
The most unnerving part of it all was seeing the snipers on the roof. These Victoria and Saanich police do not mess around.

Shit Thel what a harrowing ordeal. Glad it turned out ok at least.

Jeez though. The cops reactions these days are vastly different to when Ozzy was running around hotel floors naked and out of his mind terrorising hotel guest.

Wow...

But I do have to applaud the actions of the police though. They took the situation head on...and luckily this time it wasn't a really serious situation. But it is always better to be overly cautious.

That being said I can imagine opening the door to a hallway full of armed cops with guns pointed at you might cause some urgent need of underwear change.


Glad that all worked out and they caught the guy and most importantly you and your fellow residents are safe...
