Couple of things to note -

There's a difference between collecting and listening. Some things you buy to collect, so that you have enjoyment from the fact that it is in your possession, making a complete set with all the others of its kind. There is an enjoyment from the sense of finality.

Some things you buy to listen, where it's the memory of the notes played that lasts with you. The item has a sentimental attachment, but that attachment can also be associated with events surrounding the song or album when it was first listened to or when it was playing during some kind of significant event.

I did a lot of collecting until I realized the day had come when I really didn't care if I had all the DP live releases. I had enough. Years later, as I got ready to move to my current house, I had the same 50-something realization that not only did my kids not *really* want all my vinyl, I didn't want all my mom's vinyl when that day came. So I found an enthusiastic kid that had a big house and a desire to dive into tons of free albums, and just gave it ALL away.

I know what it was all worth and what I spent on it. And I gave it away to someone who would care for most of it and sell the stuff she didn't want and I felt very happy about that.

I had some other stuff I had collected where rats got into the storage - bunch of books - and ate and crapped it all into nothing. Made me glad I gave away my records instead of putting them into storage, where they'd go nowhere.
Yep all that, collecting, finality, sentimentality, satisfaction, happiness but you forgot another aspect of it. HOARDING

Runs in my mum’s side of the family and out of all my brothers & one sister, I think I’m the one that inherited it. It’s not like anything to the point you see on some of those Hoarders tv shows but I have a hell of a hard time parting with things. Even when I buy doubles of things, one to sell one to keep I still have trouble  :twitch:

Give Marie Kondo's book a read. I know it helped me in saying good-bye to possessions I wasn't using and wasn't ever going to use.

Speaking of sentimentality and hoarding. I came across my 1985 school year folder today while digging for something else.

Oh now that's cool!

I only have a few things left from my school days sadly....but I can honestly say nothing like that though.

Yeah as you can see I didn’t do much work in class though.

What about the language though just above where Black Sabbath and the pentagram is scribbled for a then 13-14yo  :-X

Hahaha! Didn't notice that at first...But isn't cunt an endearing word down there? ;D

The only real band related stuff I did in high school was write down Sabbath song lyrics on my notebooks...and sometimes created stories around them too.

Yep it’s part of everyday vernacular here. It’s not uncommon to roll it out every sentence in a conversation. It seems to be little more taboo in other countries though.

In the US it's the worst thing you can call a woman...but if used to a man I think it's not quite as bad.

The UK people seem to use it a lot more though...

It might get some use in the UK, but it considered the worst of the swear words even more so than fuck, but I think the 'n' word gives it a run for it's money.

That's bit surprising considering how wildly it is used on some british tv shows and movies.

Anyone else been collecting these cool limited edition etched glasses from the official Sabbath store? Finally got my MOR in today after 6 weeks of waiting. I’m assuming they’re gonna do all 70’s albums. Paranoid is up for preorder at the moment.

My wife does pottery. We don't collect, as a result. We give away!

Same with sewing.

These look pretty darn cool!

Price is bit high though and there's always a risk for damage during shipping so that's why I don't really like ordering these kinds of stuff...

I've got my DIO beer glass and that'll do.
