We had our big horse race today. The Melbourne Cup. The race that stops a nation. We even celebrate it by having a public holiday for it and all. Anyway, I use to be an avid race horse follower and punter but have gone off it after breeding and owning a few horses and being burnt by people in the industry. But that's a story for another day.

Anyhow, I still like to have the odd bet here and there and especially on the Melbourne Cup. Haven't been following the form though so was betting a little blind but there was a horse running called Master of Reality, trained out of England but Australian owned. Now I'm not usually an omen or mug punter but how could I not back it? Quick scan of its form just to be sure I wasn't just plonking my hard earned on a horse that couldn't win and its form checked out. So with that, paying 23/1 I had $20 straight on the nose for a $460 collect.

Did I hear the call correctly, Jack, Master Of Reality came in 3rd?  You should have bet $20 across the board.

I usually would go each way, win/place. Master of Reality ran 2nd. Looked home 50 out was still in front a stride before the line but the horse on the inside refused to give in and just kept kicking.

Here's the thing though, if you look at the replay, another 2 horses started chiming in a 100 out to make it a four way go, Master of Reality shifted in and tightened one of the horses on its inside that ran 4th. The jockey ended up protesting against Master of Reality saying it shifting in on his horse cost him a place and even the win. The protest was upheld and Master of Reality was subsequently relegated to 4th , the 4th horse promoted to 3rd and the 3rd horse promoted to 2nd. So it would've been a double the pain for me if I had've backed it a place. MOR just nosed out of the win on the line, then demoted to 4th on protest and missing a place alltogether

Wow, that is wild.     It was this year's Kentucky Derby that the winner was removed because of a protest.  First time ever, I think.

In the last 8 months 3 major big rock acts have cancelled their Australian tours. First Ozzy, then last month Metallica, and today, 4 days before their tour was due to start, Kiss have cancelled their whole Australian/NZ tour due to Paul Stanley's suffering a severe throat infection

I think I read somewhere that Stanley had influenza! That can be serious.

Yes, just a few days ago they moved the opening show in Perth back a few days and cancelled the Auckland date altogether due to his influenza. Now Stanley has developed a throat infection and been ordered to rest for 2 weeks or longer.

Forgot as well that only 12 months ago Scorpions had to cancel their Melbourne & Sydney shows with Def Leppard. The only reason I bought a ticket was to see them

Our heroes are getting old, they can't party like they used to and any ailments lay them low and take longer to recover than before.

I'm sure they will reschedule and it's not because they dislike Australia!
