I don't believe we've ever had a favourite drum intros thread here or elsewhere before which is surprising given there's been so many killer and very iconic drum intro's in music history

So come up with your top ten(I know, it's very tough :twitch:) then add ten honourable mentions :drummer:

Wow....now this is a curve ball.

For a proper list I'm gonna have to give this some thought but out of top of my head I'll throw in a couple.

Iron Maiden - Where Eagle Dares
Blaze Bayley - City Of Bones
Ozzy Osbourne - Over The Mountain
Megadeth - Trust
Black Sabbath - Iron Man
Motörhead - Overkill
Black Sabbath - Headless Cross
Iced Earth - High Water Mark
Rainbow - Stargazer

#1 regardless of what else I'm gonna think of
Judas Priest - Painkiller

So this is much harder than I thought but I think I've been able to come up with a solid ten favourites although I'm sure I'm gonna forget a few that others will mention.

Overkill(Phil Taylor - Motörhead)
Stay Clean(Phil Taylor - Motörhead)
Gangland(Clive Burr - Iron Maiden)
Rust In Peace(Nick Menza - Megadeth)
Stargazer(Cozy Powell - Rainbow)
Gypsy(Bill Ward - Black Sabbath)
Hot For Teacher(Alex Van Halen - Van Halen)
Rock and Roll(John Bonham- Led Zeppelin)

Honourable mentions

Run To The Hills(Clive Burr - Iron Maiden)
Another Life(Clive Burr - Iron Maiden)
Where Eagles Dare(Nicko McBrain - Iron Maiden)
Riding on the Wind(Dave Holland - Judas Priest)
Indians(Charlie Benante - Anthrax)
Red Hot(Tommy Lee - Motley Crüe)
Epidemic(Dave Lombardo - Slayer)
Trust(Nick Menza - Megadeth)
Exciter(Les Binks - Judas Priest)
Betrayal(Bobby Jarzombek - Halford)

For songs like Iron Man and Turn Up the Night, I consider the opening drum beats as essentially timekeeping and not solos where the ability of the drummer is showcased.

When I saw this thread, two solos leapt to my mind:

Cozy Powell - Stargazer
Ian Paice - Fireball

Next I thought of these two:

Ian Paice - Pictures of Home
Alex Van Halen - Hot for Teacher

Then I thought of "Keep A-Knockin", which is where Zep got their drum intro. That intro belongs to Charles Connor, one of Little Richard's studio drummers and the drummer for his touring band.

Now I'm also thinking of...

Nigel Glockler - This Town Rocks

Some good intros listed already. The only one I would add that I haven't seen mentioned yet is:

Motorhead - Locomotive.

How could I miss this one?
