Deadland Ritual: Geezer Butler's New Supergroup

Geezer's got the itch again. My hope all along since Sabbath called it quits was that Tony or Geezer would form a supergroup so very much looking forward to hearing this.

Thanks for the information Jack, I’ll have to check it out.

I'm interested to see what they come up with. I hope there's an album.

sample here :

I prefer to wait and have something more finished to listen to but this sample has nothing special.
We are very far from g // z / r, looks like a generic US melodic heavy band or something like that .

^^^

Difficult to tell from a short sample. It didn't sound dreadful though.

Certainly not what I was expecting but I'm still enthused to hear it properly. Does sound like another one of those modern retro rock bands though and Geezer is most likely not writing the lyrics.

It seems it's been a closely guarded secret to only come out now. Been no official press release from the band either. They were announced fairly high up on the Hellfest bill only a few days but no one seemed to question who the fuck is Deadland Ritual?

Eh. Er. Uh. Hmmm.

There was nothing in the sample that pulled at me. But like you all, I'm interested to see what actually develops from this.

I wonder if the bass highlighting in the sample is indicative of their overall approach to sound presentation? Or if it an outlier? I liked that aspect of it, but man, the vocals were a dime-a-dozen.

That’s what it seems like to me too, generic.

Kind of generic at first thought. Would be interesting to know if Geezer is also contributing lyrics.

This was my feeling exactly too when I first heard it...

I have to say I would have much preferred a new GZR album...Pedro Howse can play circles around this Stevens guy and I even prefer Clark Browns vocals, which I know are a bit of an aquired taste.

But at the same time I am happy Geezer jumped back on the saddle I just wish it would have been a different saddle I suppose.

The full video for the song Down in Flames has just been released:

It's okay on first hearing, nothing special, perhaps a bit generic.

EDIT: The YouTune link was invalid, so I linked to te article instead.

While the song isn't terrible or anything, it's actually not bad at all, but it's really not my thing.
Sounds just like a lot of other modern rock bands out there at the moment.

Still happy to see Geezer making new music again though and wish him nothing but the best for his new band.

Not my thing either, Geezer looks out of place with those young guys.
