Off for a few days next week, me and a couple of friends heading up to York (the "old" one :D !). It's not like I'll be off grid though!

Given that the street pattern for much of York is based on the old Roman system, I expect you'll have a fair amount of grid there. :smug:

KDC's impending trip got my mind to wandering around Northern Europe and I recently I saw a brief news item about Norway (I think). The important bit is that some guy happened to be digging around an old tree and he discovered, tangled among the root system, an old sword scabbard. Intricately carved with a really cool design, solid gold. Archeologists say it's about 1500 years old and was actually used, rather than being ceremonial, due to wear marks on it.
