So My Daughter Suggested a 70s Week...
« on: October 22, 2018, 05:31:58 PM »
... in which the whole family would live like people did in the 1970s.

My wife and I took only a few seconds to think of how that would turn into one of those things you don't ask for, because you might just get it.

:evillaugh:

My daughter was prepared to not have the phones or computers. She figured she'd read for fun. Fine. "But only books available in the 70s" was our rule. Suddenly, her plans took a turn.

The menu? It would be stuff we ate in the 70s, before all this stuff about fusion cuisine. If we could find any Swanson TV Dinners that we could bake in the oven, we'd have those one night.

I figured I could download a few 70s shows to represent the limited viewing choices. Not only did we have just a handful of channels in Dallas (ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, and 2 independent channels), TV choices were further limited by what dad wanted to watch. If dad like The Rockford Files, we all became fans of the show. I didn't know what other shows to watch instead of his choices because I never saw them at all.

Music... my wife and I were young kids in the 70s, so we didn't get to call the shots on the radio, either. I planned on a playlist loaded with US pop from the 70s. Not all of it bad, but not all of it good, either.

Back to the TV, I'd also cut between the 70s shows and commercials on YouTube, as needed. But no pausing or skipping, like we can do now with digital TV. Shut the hell up and pay attention, or YOU WILL NEVER SEE IT AGAIN.

We'll also have to find a way to make the TV use only 19" of screen... no way to replicate the rabbit ears experience, now that even terrestrial signals require a digital receiver.

That sounds pretty cool Zed!!  I love the 70s and they are probably my favorite decade for music. Hope you all have fun - it sounds interesting,

Zzzptm May I suggest Happy Days? And 70’s made for tv horror movies, being it’s Halloween season, those were the best.

I should look up a TV Guide from a typical week in the 70s... and be sure to hit 'em with an episode of Hee Haw and the Walt Disney Hour, those were standbys for me.

And original ZOMGWTFBBQ Battlestar Galactica!
