To Stooge Or Not To Stooge
« on: September 14, 2018, 09:40:20 AM »
A while back I was going to put up a thread/poll about the Stooges, but I didn't know if everyone was familiar with them.  I am sure the guys here in the U.S. are.  I have always been a big fan, and have seen every one of their 190 film shorts at least 50 times each, no lie.

So I ask those in Europe, Australia and even Canada, could you let me know how familiar you are with the Three Stooges.

To those in the U.S., did you numskulls watch them as much as I did?  :)

Not that familiar with their comedy, but I have seen one or two short films by them. My dad liked them a lot when he was young, so it is through him that I became familiar with their comedy.

Not too familiar actually. I ofcourse know who they are and I've seen a clip here and a clip there but I had no idea they had done 190 shorts!

I am a Stoogeologist. :)

I love their stuff. Shemp is my favorite of the bunch, which I bet is where we're going to butt heads on this subject. :smug:

Folks, Typhon and I just agreed. I think I need to take the forums down for maintenance...

Well, just goes to show there's always an area to build up common interests.

So, back to Shemp... my favorite short with him is the one where he is giving voice lessons to the tall blonde that CAN. NOT. SING. and then has to get married in order to inherit. Emil Sitka doing his "Hold hands, you lovebirds!" is one of my all-time favorite lines.

Good choice. :pub:  That one is called Brideless Groom.  The line I love is when the tall blonde is leaving after her lesson and Shemp says, "Gargle with old razor blades."  :))  Here is the link.  Check it out gentlemen.

Then there's the one where they help the poor waitress (Christine McIntyre) go through the old haunted house. The big goon guy in it always scared the bejabers out of me when I was a kid.

The razor blades line was classic, as was "This dreamboat's sailin'! TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!"

Can't say I'm any sort of fan or anything but from what I did watch of them i liked them. I seem to remember the shorts occasionally being on before the main feature movie at the cimema for a period of time in my earliest recollections of going to the movies.

That is correct.  Most of the shorts were made before broadcast television existed.  1 or 2 would be shown prier to a feature movie in theaters.  That's why the shorts are such an odd length (16 to 25 minutes).  When they hit the television airwaves, the Stooges popularity took off here in the states.

I think you are describing Shivering Sherlocks.  Another great choice.

Here in Dallas, we had a kids' show called Slam Bang Theater. It ran for a number of years in the 6am-7am slot and would show a Stooges short, another comedian's short subject, then a second Stooges. If I got my Lucky Charms during the commercials, I didn't miss a minute of action.

Seein' as there's no other place around the place I reckon this must be the place I reckon.

Always loved the Stooges. Laughed my ass off watching Brideless Groom. Those women at the end were HOT! I think the AMC channel still runs them. Never liked Curly Joe or Joe Besser.

:))  A true Stooge if I ever heard one.

I feel a bit sad for the members around the world who did not have exposure to the Stooges while growing up.  Guess you can't really miss things you never had to begin with.
