Vote For Your Five Best Metal/Hard Rock Albums From 1982
« on: August 21, 2018, 08:27:05 AM »
1982 was a quantum leap forward from 1981, with a plethora of outstanding and influential albums. Metal was only growing bigger! The NWOBHM was peaking, with more extreme genres ready to make their presence known.

Vote for what you consider to be the five best albums from 1982.

Once this poll is done and we have a winner we'll move onto 1983 and so on...

Then we'll put all the winners from the years 80-89 up against each other to determine the greatest metal/hard rock album from the 80's.

Poll will run for five days before closing.

Vote away  :headbanger:

82 was the year I really started to get into metal and ended up becoming a lifelong devotee so it holds fond memories for me. I was exclusively really only a Kiss fan up until then.

I went with...

Restless and Wild - Accept
The Number Of The Beast - Iron Maiden
Screaming For Vengeance- Judas Priest
Blackout - Scorpions
Black Metal - Venom

Found it incredibly hard leaving out Creatures Of The Night but I'd kinda left Kiss behind at that point and considered them old hat at the time and I was listening to what I thought was much heavier and exciting stuff. Wasn't until a couple of years later I realised what an amazing album it actually was..

Would also like to give special mention to Tank Filth Hounds of Hades, one of the great NWOBHM albums and also Battle Hymns, Scarred For Life, Iron Fist and Raven's Wiped Out.

There are 4 albums here that stand out to me here more than anything else...them being:

Iron Fist - Motörhead
Magic - Ian Gillan
The Number Of The Beast - Iron Maiden
Screaming For Vengeance - Judas Priest

Then it got pretty hard as I'm not a real fan of any of the other bands...BUT there is one that I do enjoy quite a bit and that would be:

Black Metal - Venom!

RAINBOW!
RUSH!
MAIDEN!
PRIEST!
WHITESNAKE!

Rainbow's best post-Dio album, a real monster. Rush making a great follow-up to Moving Pictures. Dickinson's debut with Maiden, what an opus! Priest's best album, the whole thing is practically a "Best Of" offering. Whitesnake does an awesome set without having to go too far with the whole misogynistic thing.

I real don't know a lot of these albums, and even if I know the group it's earlier or later stuff I like. For instance I can't stand Screaming for Vengeance. Anyway I went with 4 rather than 5:

Signals (even better than Moving Pictures in my mind)
Restless & Wild
Number of the Beast (but it's one of the weaker early Dickinson albums)
Iron Fist (but they have done a lot better)

Anvil - Metal on Metal: Lips, man.

Cheap Trick - One on One: She's still tight.

The Rods - Wild Dogs: Anvil

Judas Priest - Screaming for Vengeance: This record dominated my turntable when it came out. I think I played the first side 20 times before I finally flipped it over. Electric Eye blew me away.

Venom - Black Metal: Strip away the cheese and you're left with a bunch of tight tunes that not only hammered my brain at the time, but defined and coalesced a genre.

Correct response for the Judas Priest album.

And while when I heard the Venom album, I realized that I had limits, yes, it definitely "defined and coalesced a genre".

So we've had 11 voters in this poll compared to 13 the 80 and 81 polls. Who hasn't yet voted?

Loving the diversity of the votes in this year btw.
