Shaving your face!
« on: July 30, 2018, 02:44:10 AM »
So how do you shave your face? Or do you?

And sure if you shave other parts of your body feel free to share that too if you like...

I'm an old school kinda guy and I have my Gillette...it is the one with the vibration though...I use the new Gillette Fusion Proglide blades...they are pretty good..

My beard doesn't grow much so I only need to shave twice a week which is nice I suppose... On the down side I grow a hair here another one there so I can never grow a beard without it looking like the ass end of an opossum with mange...so sadly covering my ugliness with a beard does not work....so I shave.

And you?

I use 2 blade throw-aways with a flexing head and twice a week is all I need to shave. I have a goatee that I use an electric trimmer on but could never grow a full beard (see opossum comparison). And I don't do any other kind of "man-scaping".

Basically I'm electric (Braun), but I do tidy up/finish off with a disposable razor

I'm currently running with a Schick pro glide 3 with Schick shaving gel. Best blades I've ever used.

I'm a bit lazy when it comes shaving though. Once a week and I don't change a blade until after about ten shaves.  ;)

Old School : I use 2 blades flexing head disposable Gillette. one by 4/6 weeks .
Can't stand a too irritating 3 days beard.  So when I'm on vacation it's a shave every 2 days.
52 , a large majority of my hair is still very black but my beards are almost all white. I hate that.

I had a beard for nearly 20 years (22-41) I used to keep it neat a tidy with a trimmer and razor. And whilst my hair was dark brown the beard was flecked with all sorts of colours which probably reflects that when I was born they thought I was going to be ginger!

And I had a moustache when I was 14...

Well think of it this way if you'd grow a proper beard you could be Santa quite easily during christmas! ;D

I let the beard grow until it becomes unbearable and then I go to the barber. I hate shaving.

My option is more "Mossad style: shaving is a waste of time, but I'll clean up if I have to see a customer or it's long enough to be grabbed in hand-to-hand combat."

Shaving: I work from home, so I let it grow while I'm at home. Just before I go to a customer site, which happens at least once a month, I'll run a trimmer over everything and then go at it with a throwaway 2-blade. I'll use the same 2-blade for the week I'm at the customer site, and then I'll toss it in the hotel trash can.

When I do shave, I have a regimen that reduces shaving rash significantly. I'll share that in my next post.

Haircut: I get a very short haircut, a fade, about once every 2 months. I'd prefer having the  barber shave it all down, the full Kojak look, but my wife refuses. But, having it close in allows me two grooming pluses:

1. If it rains, I just push the water off my head and carry on.
2. When I wake up, I look in the mirror and smile at that which needs no brushing.

OK, now my regimen...

1. Pre-shave: rinse face with hot water, opens up the pores.
2. Lather: some would have me first apply a layer of coconut oil, but that's too much hassle for me. I just lather. However, I use a lather without any nasty chemical abrasives or crazy stuff. I use Dr. Bronner's products, and they have a shaving lather that's perfect. It's peppermint scented with natural peppermint oil, which is very soothing.

The lather stays on my hands and can nest in my goatee. This is because I will re-apply the lather after each pass of the razor, as long as the lather lasts.

3. Shave face with downward strokes only.
4. Re-apply lather, shave face with upward strokes only.
5. Re-apply lather, shave face with strokes going from side to middle.
6. Shave face with strokes going from middle to side.
7. Feel over face, touch up areas as needed.
8. Rinse first with hot water, then immediately with cold water - hot to get the stuff out of my skin, cold so nothing gets into those open pores.
9. Apply a lotion on the shaved area. I turn again to Dr. Bronner's, and employ their peppermint lotion, very soothing and smells wonderful.

No pimples, rashes, or other irritations and my face is as smooth as a very smooth thing, indeed!

I'm actually a bit of three.

Since I shave maybe once a month I can look a bit caveman like. When I do shave I use an electric to get it closer to the skin. After that I use a razor. If it was up to me I would never shave, but the wife does not like that. Sadly I am at that age where I have more hair on my back, ear and nose than on my head or face.
