Horror Movies
« on: June 28, 2018, 11:50:30 AM »
I was very excited a few weeks ago when the Halloween trailer dropped. This is one of my favorite films and favorite Horror Franchise. Every year I try to watch a Horror film a night starting in October. Maybe this year I will start it earlier. Anyway what are some of your favorite Horror films?
Here are maybe my top 10. This list could change.
1) Halloween
2) Jaws.....although one could argue that this is not a true Horror film
3) The Exorcist
4) Psycho
5) The Omen
6) Texas Chainsaw Massacre
7) Evil Dead
8) Friday the 13th
9) Night of the Living Dead
10) Creepshow

Plus many many more

I tend to find dramatizations/documentaries that are really scary because they actually happened...

S21 and The Killing Fields about the Khmer Rouges

The Wannsee Conference about the Nazi meeting at which they laid out The Final Solution

Re-Animator
Dawn Of The Dead
Evil Dead 2
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2
From Beyond
Braindead
Videodrome

I like some Black humour in my horror.

Okay I've given this some thought...

10. Virus
9. Halloween
8. Nightmare On Elm Street
7. Romero's Living Dead trilogy (can't separate these)
6. The Crazies (Re-make is actually better than the original)
5. Evil Dead Trilogy (again these cannot be separated)
4. The Mist
3. Event Horizon
2. Alien Quadrilogy (Again these cannot be separated they are all (well okay maybe not the third one) so suberb)
1. JOHN CARPENTER's THE THING (Not only THE best horror movie but one of THE BEST MOVIES OF ALL TIME.)

I had to leave out some classics that I do not consider pure horror like the Predator movies, Pitch Black, Resident Evil movies, which are all more action than horror, Deep Rising and Slither which are bit more action/comedy/horror...

Also couple of classics that didn't quite make it to the top ten would include, The Cube, Pumpkin Head, Videodrome, The Fly (Cronenberg's naturally), Body Snatchers (all versions really are great), Jaws, Species, Scanners, Hitchcock's Birds, Isle Of Terror and I'm sure I left some out of this list too that I should have included...

Oh and Braindead right..how could I forget that gem...thanks for the reminder Jack!

Yeah one might say I'm a bit of a horror buff...

I have been going around to the different stores in  town and have been buying up the Horror movies, sometimes for great prices.
Christine
The first four Friday The 13th collection
Cat's Eye
Dracula
Frankenstein
Bride Of Frankenstein
Creature From The Black Lagoon
The Dead Zone
Pet Sematery
Graveyard Shift
Silver Biullet
Alien Vs Predator 1 and 2
The Stand
The Langoliers
Jaws 2, 3 and the horrid number four in a collection
Halloween 1 and 2 by Rob Zombie

Quite a few Stephen King movies, and that is just fine with me as I am a big fan of his since childood.

The Langoliers has always been one of my favourites...sure the effects were rather abysmal even for the times but the story was really good.

I remember seeing part of it years ago and as you said the effects were horrible - the story however is great. :pub:
