Black > Light

:naughty:  the Black album over Ride The Lightning??????????????????????????????????????????

 :wtf:

Every day. I can live with Puppets going to win this, but i'm not comfortable with Black being any less than second. And so it's also to curb Lightning in the battle against Puppets.

My impression about peoples relationship with BA is they're too hung up on that it's not "Thrash Metallica", and forget that it's a fucking brilliant Heavy Metal album.

When we get to our personal "right" lists after the game is over, BA is going to be first on my list. Yes, i'm that bland... :)

Ehhhh...but it's NOT. It's average at best...It's got those couple good songs but it also has some real stinkers...

Unforgiven, Nothing Else Matters, Don't Tread On Me, The God That Failed, My Friend Of Misery and The Struggle Within belong in that category...the first two more than others.

^^^ I quite like Nothing Else Matters actually, but yes overall it is a mixed album, but I would still place it 4th in their catelogue.

The black album is a masterpiece Billy, no two ways about it. As much as I felt hurt at how big Metallica had become with that album I still loved it and played the absolute shit out of it but truth be told I can barely listen to it now. Maybe it's the over polished production which sounds dated now or I just played it too dam much back in the day but I get more of a buzz listening to St Anger these days than the black album.

I became a fan when RTL was released and I am so tied to those first three albums. It's like they're part of my DNA. They were game changers and like nothing else and to this very day I have never been more addicted to an album and band as I was RTL & MOP when they first came out.

Hmmm... I could've guessed NEM, and i thought maybe Of Wolf And Man would be one of them. But to me all of those are true HM classics.

The fact that you've played it so much you're sick of it just speaks of it's merits. So does the fact that this was the album that brought not only Metallica, but HM as a genre into the mainstream audience.
I think that should be taken into consideration too in this battle. But, hey. That's just me... :)

Yes, as I said it's a masterpiece, but I never asked or wanted metal to be brought into the mainstream. I've always despised the mainstream...

I've got the same "problem"...the album just screams mainstream commercialism...both in songs and in production and that is most certainly an issue...

1. Kill 'Em All - 14
2. Ride The Lightning - 32
3. Master Of Puppets - 31
4. Metallica - 8
...And Justice For All (5th Place)
Load (6th Place)
Hardwired... To Self-Destruct (7th Place)
Death Magnetic (8th Place)
ReLoad (9th Place)
St. Anger (10th Place)

Ride 'em all...

Fair enough.  I tend to agree on one side, on the other side i also want as many as possible to understand and enjoy great music. When i got into Sabbath, NOONE (atleast around me) had heard of them. After The Osbournes, everybody knew, but that still didn't make me less of a fan. The way i see it, if a great band hasn't broken through into the mainstream, it's the mainstreams loss...
