If Kerry runs the business side, it's likely he's got control of the trademarks. But I doubt he'd tour as Slayer featuring Kerry King. He can just as easily tour as Slayer's Kerry King Live in Concert or something like that.
What about Kerry King’s Slayer  :P

What about Tom's wife. She was always pretty active in reporting stuff...or is she just his manager and nothing more?

Anyhow. I would believe that if Slayer is owned by Tom and Kerry, Tom wouldn't be willing to just give up his half so that Kerry could carry on...especially after all the big press the farewell tour got.

Name wise what about King Slayer?

Not bad. What about Slaytera?  ;D

I don’t think Tom could in any way stop Kerry from touring under the name if he’s opted out. Kerry is a part owner of the brand which would give him a right to use it unless there is an agreement in place that one can’t use the name without the other. I don’t think Tom is the type of person that would wanna put up a fight about it and potentially have the Slayer name dragged through the mud either.

Kerry should just leave Slayer where it is and move on. Name-wise, to be sure.

The key here is whether or not Kerry King on his own is big enough to draw a crowd, or does he need "Slayer" on the poster to put butts in seats? Man's gotta eat, and more than one solo performer has decided to remind people of former glory in order to boost ticket sales.

Consider: it's 1980, you're a clueless teen, and you have a choice between seeing Deep Purple or the Rod Evans Band... you go with Deep Purple, even though it turns out it's actually Rod Evans and some nobodies doing bad covers... but you bought the ticket, so too bad so sad... at least until the lawsuit.

So while it's true that the name Kerry King is well-known among fans of metal, if there's a bunch of people that are passing Slayer fans but don't know King from any other guitarist, survival may dictate a grab for the Slayer name. If King is just doing performances for kicks and beer money, then he's good to go doing club tours and stuff like that. But if he's got bigger needs, he's going to need to mention Slayer in there, somewhere. Least troublesome would be, "The man behind Slayer's massive guitar attack... KERRY KING!!!" or something like that.

^ The answer is yes and no. Kerry is probably the least popular member in Slayer. A lot of of people consider him a douche, but he’d still have no trouble filling clubs playing Slayer songs no matter how it’s marketed because some fans out there still wanna hear those songs performed live with at least some legitimacy, but I think Kerry would have bigger aspirations than playing just small clubs which is why he’s got Phil Anselmo onboard and the legendary Gary Holt as well as Slayer stalwart Paul Bostaph and possibly touring under the Slayer banner.

For sure, if King's goal is money, then Slayer is the brand. He should still leave it, and develop his own thing. What he should do and the realities of life are very often two different things, of course, and Anselmo is arguably a bigger draw than King anyway.

A few years ago David Crosby (of Birds, CSN, and CSNY fame) was interviewed and asked if CSN would ever play some gigs again. He said that he'd like to, and he felt Nash and Stills would be on board, but that none of them would do it unless Young agreed to participate.

Asked why, Crosby stated plainly that CSN could put 10,000 people in an arena. Neil Young would put 70,000.

And Kerry King is not the Neil Young in this situation. So I can see him really wanting to tour under the Slayer flag. But he'd better be sure those other big names come along, or it will go to shit real fast.

Yeah going under the Slayer name would ofcourse bring in the big bucks but I can't see that happening. Also the fan outrage would be unheard of. And Slayer fans are pretty damn vocal bunch of people.

IF things would have been marketed as Tom's retirement from Slayer instead of SLAYER's Retirement things might be different.

I am inclined to believe that IF Kerry and Phil put a band together (which I doubt honestly as Phil's got gazillion things going on all the time already) it would be marketed as a "Supergroup" which would also give it some publicity.
