I love Texas though and would love to visit...but if it includes I must drink Dr. Pepper it'll be a hard pass...even if Richard Rawlings himself would be offering to buy me one...

I bought a few special Bourbon's for this christmas...heck might be the last ones I ever buy...my abdominal region doesn't appreciate alcohol the way it used to due to what ever reason that has yet to be determined mainly due to the inefficiency of the Finnish public health care system but that's a story for another time and another place...

I bought some Woodford Reserve which I'm expecting to be excellent, some Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon, Old Grand Dad Kentucky Bourbon and Journeyman Distillery's Not A King Rye Whiskey...I was pondering which one to open for the Xmas and decided to go with this one:






And I have to say...goddamn! I mean GODDAMN! I haven't had a lot of Rye in the past...in fact I think I've only had Knob Creek Rye (which was excellent by the way) and I wanted some Rye now because I wanted something special...and Journeyman happened to be on sale in the German site I buy from...only 34.95€...granted the bottle is only 0.5l but still...and I have to say it is rather brilliant stuff. Very different...rye whiskey has a certain very special flavour to it which is unlike anything else. And this being from Michigan it makes it that much more special. Also this is a hand numbered batch Bottle # 151 of batch 2. Which is kind of cool as well.

I can't say if this is great among rye whiskey's as I really haven't had enough of them to say but as a something of a Bourbon fan I can say that this is rather excellent indeed...and worth a trye...see what I did there <-

Indeed. I'm now bit regretting I didn't get more into the world of Rye Bourbons...granted there isn't a huge ammount of them available in these parts but still...

I haven't had a whole lot of Port wines in my time (more of a sherry man myself) but I thought what the heck...

So I went with this from Portugal called Taylor's 2016 Vintage.

Very interesting stuff. The smell notes are very sweet and fruity but it packs a bit of a tang in the taste department. I honestly haven't had enough Ports to say if that's common or not.

However I am liking this. This is quite complex...and with every sip you're left pondering what it is that your tasting at the moment.

Bought some Rye when I won and finally got the chance to taste it.

I haven't been drinking a lot of Rye Whiskey...I think I've had Knob Creek and Journyman only...but I saw this in the Finnish liquor store for nearly the same ammount (69.90€) than in Germany so I though why not.

Quite different from the others and Rye certainly has it's own flavour. This is quite sweet and has hints of cinnamon and vanilla I think...but still with a dry finish... I personally prefer bit smoother bourbons but this isn't bad...

I've been wanting to try out The Macallan for pretty much as long as I have been drinking whisky...and that's been a loooooong time. But the price has always been bit too much for me but finally I thought what the heck...and on my recent boat trip this was on sale and only cost 74,90€ so I went for it.

Granted this is among their cheapest but I do have to say it is very good. There's a deep richness to it which is bit uncommon for a Highland Single Malt most likely due to it being matured in four different types of casks both European and American...adding a lot of flavour to it.
I'm not saying this is the best Scotch I've ever had....I think that title is still tied between Lagavulin 16 YO and Glenlivet 18 YO but this is right up there for sure...and it also makes me want to try some of their finer stuff... 12 YO is around 120€ and Estate is 269€...damn...well maybe one day.

But for this christmas I'll be enjoying the hell out of this Quest to find the bottom of the bottle!

I wish I enjoyed Scotch - I have simply never been able to get into it. Maybe I've just never had any that was worth a crap, I don't know. I don't drink very often, maybe four drinks over the course of a year, so when I do, I try to have something I like

Maybe I'll try some of that stuff, Charger. A guy at work is a big bourbon fan, belongs to some booze of the month club and all that, I might ask him if he has any. Not sure if he gets anything other than bourbon or if they send him a variety.

What do you drink then when you feel like having one Vyn?


I used to be more of a Scotch fan but I have actually found myself enjoying Bourbons more and more. I always try to find some new Bourbons to try out as well as Scotches...

The thing with scotch is that usually price tells a big story. Cheap ones just aren't very good...there are few exeptions like The Observer 20 Y.O Single Grain which is great and only costs around 35€ a bottle.
But usually if you want good scotch may it be Islay, Highland or Speyside stuff under 50€ a bottle tend to be bit rough.

Bourbon's are bit more forgiving and cheap ones can be really good too. The Four Roses being a good example of a good tasting but cheap bourbon. The middle range is wider in bourbons I think than in Scotches. Quality stuff from 30 to 50€...Scotch the good middle range goes from 40 to 60€...

Naturally these are German prices here...you can double them to get the Finnish prices...and ofcourse some might be even cheaper over there...especially speaking of Bourbons.


I've been trying to venture out a bit and try new things...I've recently started going through Gins...and some Rums too.
