The right album won, but as I mentioned any one of the first 6 would've been a worthy winner.

So, here's the list as it should've been.

OZZY ERA

1. (tied) Black Sabbath, Master Of Reality, Sabotage. Can never seperate these three. They all represent the three great facets of Sabbath, the Blues, the ultra-Heavy and the Progressive

4. Paranoid, Vol 4, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath . These are not tied, but vary from each time. Paranoid is where they become the real first Sabbath, Vol 4 it's still ultra-Heavy but starting to progress, and SBS is a Progressive masterpiece. What Paranoid and SBS, and some tunes from Vol 4 suffers from is being overplayed (to me), which is why they don't quite stand up to the top three.

7. Never Say Die! Because of my personal relationship with it, it's difference, and all the hate it gets, it sometimes end up at nr. 4 on this list. A great work in all it's confusion, even the commercial Pop Hard Rock of the title track and Hard Road hits the spot.

8. 13 A decent attempt, and enjoyable. They should've put all 16 tracks on it and made it a double album with a different running order, though...

9. Technical Ecstasy. To me the most confused album of the great eight. Half of it is good, and that's not only divided into tunes, but even some of the good tunes have bad parts in them.

DIO ERA

1. Mob Rules. If you're going that way, they did it better here than on H&H.
2. Heaven and Hell
3. Dehumanizer
4. The Devil You Know. I don't really know with the last two. Back when i was into H&H and MR, 'nizer still kinda fell inn with the post BA "less than" albums. If i've known TDYK better i might've put that at 3rd.

ALL OTHER ERAS

1. Born Again. Ehhh... Is there any doubt? The only album in this group that's actually a Black Sabbath album...

2. (tied) Cross Purposes, Headless Cross/Tyr (lumped together).With Powell (and later Murray) on board it started feeling like a band again, after Iommi's two solo efforts. Though one can argue these was still Iommi solo. The HC/Tyr classic Metal sound really hit a spot in Europe, shown in Chargers defence of them here and their ongoing popularity esp. in Germany. CP i think gained alot from the energy boost the Dio reunion had been, and from having Geezer there. Should've had Powell, though, to get that band continuity from the pre Dio reunion.

5. Eternal Idol. More focused songwriting than the first solo album, but still not a band album. I think the reason the Americans like this better than HC and Tyr is because of Gillens involvement in the songwriting.

6. Forbidden. Even with Powell and Murray back on board it was too late to get that band feel established again after 'nizer and CP. It's really apparent by the unfocused songwriting and production that this was about ending the contract before work could start on the Ozzy reunion.

7. Seventh Star. Not Black Sabbath. It's a coked up Iommi/Hughes with messy, sappy songwriting. Next!

I don't dislike any of the Ozzy & Dio era albums. I love them all, some just a bit more than others. As for the other era's, that's a different story.

Ozzy era:

1. Black Sabbath: American Version. Great flow from song to song, everything taken in the right amount, the album actually seems to breathe.

2. Master of Reality: same good points as debut, just kind of short, and guitar leads are not Iommi's best.

3. Sabotage: Tough to put this at number 3,  also has great flow, Ozzy at the top of his game. Some of the songs have a stitched together feel though, and some of the riffs go on too long.

4. Paranoid: The best collection of songs of the whole bunch, somewhat lacking in production and flow from song to song though.

5. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath: great flow, great songs, the album where metal was truly invented. Repetition problems though, and again, the production leaves me cold. Note: for the big 6, these are all nitpicky.

6. Vol. 4: crushing guitar tone, manic feel start to finish, but there's something kind of "brown" about this album. Yes, that's a technical term.

7. Never Say Die!: Side one is quite good, side two saddens me.

8. Technical Ecstasy: nothing as bad as side two of NSD, nothing as good as side one of NSD. I'll take a little bit of excellence over mediocrity please.

9. 13: A couple few great songs.
