We've started on our tomatoes for the season and have marigolds planted next to them. We're using a box with a mulch cover to help preserve moisture in the system, as the potted plants dried out too easily last year.

I've got tomatoes going as well...

First chilis and bell peppers have started to form fruits already! And still no chance to even get them out to the greenhouse! Bugger.

Put the seeds for Pumpkins and cucumbers down in the dirt today...which concludes the germination period...

Do you grow plants in patterns to benefit each other?

More like to benefit myself!

No...it's just for the time it takes them to grow...chilis and bell peppers take a long time to grow and mature...so if there's any hope of actually getting some harvest before the season is over you have to put them down very early over here...

Tomatoes grow bit faster so they need little over two months less growing time than Chilis....and cucumbers grow very fast so they need a month less than tomatoes...

Ofcourse it also means that there's bit more work with the chilis...changing them to bigger pots and such two maybe three times before they're moved into the greenhouse...tomatoes and cucumbers usually only need the one pot change.

This year spring is late so who knows...might be well into June before I can get any out into the greenhouse...

Sometimes I wish I had the inclination to grow things. All of my ancestors, from my grandparents on back to at least the early 1700s, were farmers of one sort or the other. My parents weren't, but they always kept a garden. Tomatoes, green beans, that kind of thing.

I look at a plant and it dies. I think about looking at a plant and random plants die.

Unless there's an infestation of Vampires in your region don't bother as there really is no other use for garlic as it is totally unedible...

No sir I am not...nothing against the french but their use of garlic is indeed scary to say the least!


Well finally it looks like the temp is rising a bit and no need to worry about below freezing nights anymore after tonight...so maybe later this week I can finally start moving stuff to the greenhouse...about bloody time.

It's getting up into summer temperatures here in Texas. About 3-4 weeks early for them, but not unexpected.

First chilis found their way to the greenhouse today...




As usual I have waaaaay to many plants so some will have to be thrown out as they won't fit...gotta just select the best ones and try to put atleast one of each variety.
