Ahead of it's Time, Or late for the show.

Basically, a thread about any albums you adore that were totally lost on the public at large, due to current trends of the time etc.

IMO, This is a total monster of an album and I think it would have been massive, had it came out 5 years earlier:

Coverdale & Page did have some success here in Canada when it was released. I remember seeing the videos on Much Music (Canadian MTV) quite a few times.

Some success... but it wasn't a monster release. I agree, it would have been much bigger if released a few years earlier.

For ahead of its time... WAY ahead of its time... I nominate the 13th Floor Elevators. Those guys were "college alternative" 20 years before REM or bands like that were all over the radio.

I don't know what the market is now, but 30 years ago their original LPs went for big buckaroos.

This is an interesting topic.

I can't think of anything at the moment. Long-ass day. Had to let one of our VPs go because they decided being a deceitful piece of shit was a smart move. Idiot. I think I've moved to the "anger" stage of grieving. Fucking idiot.

I think if Coverdale/Page had've come out 5 years later or even better in the early 2000's it would've been massive. 1988 was the height of bubblegum metal and thrash was becoming a big movement. Mostly everything in between was faltering or very underground unless you were an established classic metal band ala Maiden or Priest.

I'm nominating the obvious one.

UFO - Walk on Water (1995)

If this album had been released ten years earlier all over the world and not only in Japan at first, the band would have reached the highest peaks.

Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow - Stranger in Us All  (1995)

A time capsule in the middle of the grunge and fusion waves. May be 5 years too early.

Indeed. 1982 called and wants its album back. :smug:

Meanwhile, the MC5 discovered 1974 back in 1969...

^^^ Awesome examples, all of them!

This one could have easily had come out in 1978 and not be out of place:

A little ahead of it's time for '73.

That was 1973? That's late 70s power pop! It's got some connections to T. Rex, but it looks forward to the future, for sure.

And speaking of power pop, I think these guys know they're 40 years late to the party, given the title of the song. Great tune, sounds perfect for that 78-80 time frame.

Iggy Pop decided to invent punk rock one day, back in the late 60s...

^^^ Cheers Billy!

Nice call Z, another one 5 years ahead of it's time!

Here's a band that was definitely late to the "PAR-TAY" as it were:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ImmmFPLKwk

I last saw them when they opened up for Black Sabbath on the Dehumanizer tour.
These guys are actually just one example of many Southern Ontario (Canada) bands that were geared to partake in the dying L.A. scene of the late 80's,
Then Grunge happened, and that was all she wrote for the most part.

Another example:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bagcP36fP8

This song comes from their EP that came out in 1993, so they were REALLY late for the show.

The singer actually went on to become a successful actor:
