3 episodes in to the new adaptation of WAR OF THE WORLDS.

Very different from the others this one, but still good though and the atmosphere is GREAT...the suspense is well done...but I do miss the tripods...but I do understand that from a budget stand point the new types of sentinels are much more affordable...and they still are scary though.

Gabriel Byrne once again is EXCELLENT.

Going to finish The Terror today, it's got an incredible cast and a story well told.

Working through the great BBC series Porridge, only saw a few episodes before and loved them. Netflix has the series, and I got up to the middle of season 2 on my flight back from the UK.

Porrideg is one of my all time favourite sit-coms, Ronnie Barker at his best as the serial criminal banged up for 5 years, and the rest of the cast are phenominal too. All set within the walls of Slade Prison. I think there's less than 30 episodes all told plus a spin off film (which was quite good too). There was a spin off series called Going Straight when he gets released but it wasn't so good, but not actually bad.

3 seasons of 6 episodes each, plus 2 Xmas specials is what Netflix have got. What draws me in most is the underlying humanity of all the characters. We don't get much cardboard in terms of who's on the series. Each one comes with a story. Barker's Fletcher is a master class in character acting. That one episode where he meets the black Scotsman, where he goes from jovial to hard in a split instant, then back to making peace, was absolutely riveting. In the "Quiet Night In" episode, there was such a sadness and a dignity in the discussion, it won me over to wanting to see the whole of the series.

This thread is called TV shows so it's on tv... On Fox.

It's produced by Studio Canal and Fox International. Filmed in the UK and France.

I have been informed that this is not airing in the US yet though. But better watch the schedule on Fox.

In the UK it starts on Sunday on the BBC (straight after His Dark Materials), it only seems to be 3 epiodes acording to IMDb but maybe that's all they know about so far.

6 Episodes total. Although I do not know if there will be a season 2 or will it play out the whole story on season 1...it does move on bit slow so I don't know, then again we all know how the story ends so if they stay true to that an abrupt ending might be in store.

Yeah I know...but my point was for me there is only one platform TV...I don't do those stupid streaming services. Only two ways for me to watch shows. TV or DVD/Bluray.

Nope. I hate the whole concept of paying for something that you can just see on tv...which is something you have to pay for anyways...so it's like paying double.

Most of the content is exclusive to Netflix though. There is some ripper shows on Netflix. Do you have pay TV and free to air?

Yeah we have a national goverment owned tv network called YLE and we have to pay tax for it. It used to be something called TV licence which every person who owned a tv had to pay...now it's a national tax...little over a 100€ a year.

As far as the netflix shows go...so far I haven't really seen anything that would make me go YEAH I want to pay 10€ a month for it. Those Marvel shows were pretty lame, I bought the dvd boxset for Hemlock Grove and that wasn't very good either.

Honestly the only show that is of some interest is Mindhunter...from what I've heard...

I've never paid for any TV viewing in my life (and never will).  I have 3 over-the-air antennas at my house.  1 on the roof and 2 in the attic.  I pickup approximately 25 to 30 channels for free.  All 4 major networks plus PBS and a number of independents.

A close friend of mine subscribes to that Netflix stuff.  I have watched a couple of series, which were not broadcast OTA, that I posted earlier in this thread.  He gives them to me on a flash drive.  I can get from him any series or movie.  If he does not already have it, then he gets it for me upon request.  But even I did not have access to this material through my friend, I would not pay for this stuff.  My local library gets pretty much any movie or TV series I want.  Paying for these things seems foolish.

Here is where I take an opposite view to Typhon's. Shock, amazement, I know... Typhon and Z disagreeing??? :smug:

Netflix has a substantial number of foreign series, stuff I just can't get on any US channel. Israeli, French, German, Russian, Polish, Indian, Mexican, and Irish - there's some great stuff out there and I can't get it any other way legally. Hulu is cheap, and will stream a few shows I like to watch, and I just finished the excellent first season of "The Terror" on it.

Amazon Prime pretty much goes with Amazon Prime Video, so if I'm already paying for fast delivery, I get some shows as a thank-you is how I see it.
