Seventh Star or Forbidden - The Worst Black Sabbath Album
« on: March 26, 2018, 11:54:19 PM »
To me these are the two weakest albums by Sabbath, although I can listen to Seventh Star the whole way through but Forbidden is just unlistenable in some places.
Are these the two worst albums by our favorite band?? Or are there other worthy contenders for the worst album(s).

I quite like Forbidden. The production isn't all that great but the songs are.

Worst Sabbath album by far is Never Say Die, that second half of it falls to the category of unlistenable.

Seventh Star I can agree with. Even if it is more of a solo album from Tony...Glenn's vocals are...well...Glenn's vocals. :D

Forbidden and Seventh Star are weaker efforts but I would add Headless Cross, Born Again and Master of Reality to the list of their weakest albums. All of them have highlights but overall lag behind the others by some distance.

Gotta go with Headless Cross. The production is very much of it's time and IMO, too much so for a Black Sabbath record, and the lyrics are absolutely abysmal! When Death Calls is probably the only song on it that I can listen to anymore.

Forbidden? I think a remix would do that album wonders!

Seventh Star? probably because of when I heard it in my life and the memories it conjures up, there's no way I could judge that album objectively.

I've never owned Forbidden so can't really comment on it but I bought Seventh Star (LP) when it was first released in the 80's and I consider it probably my least-favourite Sabbath album out of all the ones I own.  My runners-up to it would be Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die, although from what I've heard from the other Tony Martin albums they could be contenders as well.

Re. a Forbidden remix, I read in the Black-Sabbath.com website that work was started on a remix of the album, then postponed due to the the 13 album and tour.  I'm not sure if work has resumed on it yet.

Headless Cross was such a huge disappointment after Eternal Idol.

Really? I've always enjoyed Headless Cross much more than Eternal Idol.

Forbidden is an awesome album. Seventh Star is so boring I can barely get through to the end. Its hands down the worst Sabbath album for me.

I'm gonna knock all your asses for a loop and say TYR. I love Anno Mundi and Jerusalem but the rest of the album just doesn't do it for me. Nothing really sticks out after those two songs. Feel free to disagree and why.

If I was faced with losing a friendship or insisting that TYR was better than Headless Cross, I'd say, "Fine, TYR is worse..."

Not that the friendship is that important, it's just that TYR isn't really that much better of an album. I prefer Cross Purposes and Forbidden to both of those Martin-era efforts.
