Deluxe Editions of albums
« on: March 26, 2018, 02:04:25 PM »
Greetings All.  Through the years I have acquired a somewhat sizeable collection of Deluxe Editions of albums.  I therefore thought it would be interesting to start a new topic about Deluxe Editions I and others here have acquired and our thoughts about them and Deluxe Editions in general.  Here are DEs from my collection:

Deep Purple:

1. Deep Purple in Rock – 25th Anniversary Edition has 7 bonus tracks with Studio Chat in between each one.  This Edition and the ones for Fireball and Machine Head have booklets with photos, images of memorabilia related to the particular album and extensive details regarding the recording of the album, each track, etc.
2. Fireball – 25th Anniversary Edition has 9 bonus tracks.
3. Machine Head – 25th Anniversary Edition is a 2 CD set; CD 1 features the entire album remixed by Roger Glover and includes When a Blind Man Cries, the non-album b-side track (also remixed).  CD 2 is the album remastered and includes When a Blind Man Cries and quadrophonic mixes of Maybe I’m a Leo and Lazy.
4. Made in Japan – 25th Anniversary Edition is a 2 CD set; CD 1 features the entire album and CD 2 features the three encore tracks the band performed during the Tour.  I actually never bought this release as I had previously purchased Live in Japan.
5. Live in Japan – 21st Anniversary Edition is a 3 CD set; every track on this release has been remixed and each of the three concerts the band played during the tour is on one CD.  There isn’t enough room on each CD for the entire show so 2 tracks that appeared on the original Made In Japan album aren’t included and only one recording of two encore songs (Speed King and Black Night) are included.  This release includes a booklet with photos, images of memorabilia related to the concerts/tour/album and extensive details regarding the recording of the album, etc.

I don’t have any other DP Deluxe Editions so my list for them will have to stop here.

Black Sabbath:

1. Black Sabbath – 2 CD set; CD 1 is the original album and CD 2 contains 9 bonus tracks, all of which are outtakes from the album sessions.  This Edition and the ones for Paranoid and Master of Reality have booklets with photos, images of memorabilia related to the particular album and extensive details regarding the recording of the album, each track, etc.
2. Paranoid – 3 CD set; CD 1 is the original album, CD 2 is the 1974 Quadrophonic mix of the album and CD 3 contains outtakes from the album sessions.
3. Master of Reality - 2 CD set; CD 1 is the original album and CD 2 contains 9 bonus tracks, all of which are outtakes from the album sessions.

I don’t have any other Black Sabbath Deluxe Editions so my list for them will have to stop here.

Alice Cooper:

1. Billion Dollar Babies - 2 CD set; CD 1 is the original album and CD 2 contains live tracks recorded on the subsequent tour supporting the album and three outtakes from the album sessions.  This release includes a booklet with photos and images of memorabilia related to the album and details regarding the recording of the album, etc.

I don’t have any other Alice Cooper Deluxe Editions so my list for them will have to stop here.

Any comments regarding the above releases and/or any other DE releases you’d like to share?

I've got a few of those,

- Deep Purple - In Rock – 25th Anniversary Edition (Awesome, especially the alternate version of Speed King!)
- Deep Purple - Machine Head – 25th Anniversary Edition (While I enjoy the remixes, they make me appreciate the original mixes even more!)
- Deep Purple - Burn - 30th Anniversary Edition (The album remastered plus 5 remixed bonus tracks including the rare instrumental b-side: Coronarias Redig)
I haven't got around to getting the Stormbringer and Come Taste the Band remasters, yet!

- Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath deluxe (Absolutely love this release, everything about it!)
- Black Sabbath - Paranoid Deluxe (Same as the first, totally awesome!)
- Black Sabbath - Master Of Reality Deluxe (Mindblowing! Weevil Woman!!)
If the rest of the Sabbath deluxe versions where as good as the first 3, I'd gladly shell out for them, but they're not, so I won't.

Thanks for your post.  I too really like the Piano Version of Speed King on the DPIR Deluxe Edition.  I don't have the Deluxe Edition of Burn but I do have that instrumental b-side on the Listen, Learn, Read On DP box set.  MOR is my favourite of the Sabbath Deluxe Editions I have and I agree about the so-called 'Deluxe Editions' that came after it (I'm referring to the ones w/Ozzy), I have no reason to buy those either.

I have the first three Ozzy era albums in Deluxe Editions along with Mob Rules, Born Again, Seventh Star and Eternal Idol.
I also have the first three Dio albums in Deluxe Edtions, and they are fucking awesome I must say.
And last but not least I have Black Metal by Venom in the much sought after Deluxe Expanded Edition. At one time it was going for 375$ on Amazon.

I have way too many to mention but I have to say the recent RM Metallica Deluxe box sets which have been released up to Master Of Puppets so far are amazing sets and probably my favourite deluxe editions I own.

AJFA is scheduled for release later this year with TBA to follow soon after.

This is the my MOP boxset which I previously posted elsewhere

Here's some other deluxe vinyl box sets I have. Also have many deluxe CDs

I you're referring to the latest deluxe boxsets Thel, yes indeed they are beautiful. I especially like that they listened to the fans after the KEM & RTL boxsets were released in that for the MOP set all the live vinyls and bonus cd's had picture sleeves instead of the generic white sleeves they did for the KEM & RTL sets.

I still haven't broken the seal on my KEM and RTL sets but here's Hetfield unboxing both.

Those Metallica box sets are truly in another Dimension and certainly up the ante in terms of quality/quantity.  Then there's Queen's News of The World 40th Anniversary box set; I don't have it yet but it's merits have been (and are still being) debated since it's release.

I've got some DE mentioned above. But the ones I love most are my Tommy Bolin DE versions of Teaser and Private Eyes. Get those and thank me later. :smug:

The only ones I have are eternal idol, mob rules, and Weezer's blue album. Mostly for the bonus tracks, ei and mr were and still are a must for anyone missing out live at Hammersmith and Ray gillen ei.
