Remember the Dio Hologram?

According to this article, there's a wrinkle I didn't notice before:

Wendy Dio is on the board of the company doing the hologram effects.

Sounds like an epic fail all round. They announced this world hologram tour with much fanfare and within 10 dates of the tour starting it was ditched with the lamest of excuses.

With Wendy being a director/shareholder in the hologram company it's in her best interest for this to work...If not for Ronnie, then some other dead iconic musician.

Another interesting director/shareholder in the company is Todd Singerman, Motorheads longtime manager....Lets hope he ain't got any crazy ideas.

This actually sounds like a story to follow. Who's on the board, and what cows are they trying to milk? I remember seeing a bit on that on a news magazine show where Maria Callas was being trotted out in front of a live orchestra. The idea with that was basically to play back the best possible vocal recordings in a place with excellent acoustics with a live orchestra. The hologram is a visual element added as an extra treat for all the visual people out there... and people who demand something more than an orchestra playing along with a vocal track.

But I'm still wondering why not hire some sing-a-like to do the job? The live performer will simply have that ability to interact with the audience as well as the orchestra or backing band, and that's the magic of a live performance. I just saw an excellent vocalist revisit the work of Nat King Cole and he was able to do more than just playback the hits. He could take other material and interpret in a way reminiscent of Cole's style. I'm sure the guy didn't come cheap, but the experience was ama-

Well they sure don't make any money with this but then again that was never the purpose anyways...it's just for the sake of entertainment.

Also the Hologram only "sings" few songs...Oni and Tim do the majority of the set.

The hologram tour in Europe did pretty well I think...

But I still do think that it would have been better to just continue with Dio Disciples...Tim is such an amazing singer he can do justice to all of the material anyways...ofcourse he has so many other commitments too that he just doesn't have the time to do this on every tour.

Haven't his kids been milking him enough now? How about releasing some of the endless recordings he did that's still just collecting dust in a cellar instead?

Was about to post my grief about this concept yesterday, but desided not to moan too much... Here it goes, though. It's nothing to do with it being Dio, i just think this is wrong. I'd rather see an old live show on a big screen with concert sound, or a tribute act. I'd rather see Zappa Plays Zappa.

Will just have to cross my fingers that those sitting on the rights of Motörhead (other than Todd Singerman) have more integrity...

So what's next, then? A Sabbath reunion with a hologram Bill on the drums..?

There was a film, "The Congress", in which an actress that's difficult to work with signs over her career to a company that will render her via CGI. She becomes a physical unknown but a virtual superstar...

... the thought of that happening to Bill Ward also occurred to me. Get a drum machine programmed to play like him and let the hologram do the rest.
