Battle of the closers!

It's POLL time here at the Community now!!!

Let's do this with the Purple albums as well!

So this shouldn't be easy!

Which of the classic album closers do you like best?

For me it's a battle between Hard Lovin' Man and Space Truckin' both absolutely brilliant tracks. Hard Lovin' Man being probably the first song to ever use the Galloping Riff and that suberb bass line...but Space Truckin' is just such a rockin' little track...and Gillan is on fire as is Paicey...Man this is a hard call to make...feels like deciding which arm to cut off...ARGH!

Hard Lovin' Man does have a bit more of an epic closer feel to it I suppose....so I'll go with that one!

I love 'em all, but I love most "Our Lady". This will likely require some explanation on my part.

"Hard Lovin' Man" for me does not stand the test of time as well as other offerings on In Rock. Yes, it's epic. Yes, the solos are amazing. But after "Child in Time" and "Flight of the Rat", I'm exhausted. Don't rouse me for one more roll in the hay, put me down to bed, please.

"No One Came" is one of Gillan's wittiest lyrics and I absolutely love this track. It's a shame to hand this one third place, but I do it because the solos don't put it over the top. Yes, Gillan's in top form here, but he's also in top form on the other two tracks.

"Space Truckin'". Damn, this one's a monster. That riff alone is wanted for questioning in 37 jurisdictions for being criminally awesome. Superlatives abound for one of DP's most shining of shining moments. It's the perfect ending for a perfect album, but...

... along comes "Our Lady." It's a simple song, with no solos in it. But the chord progressions are irresistible for me. The fade out works as well as any other fade out, I suppose. But it's Gillan's vocals and lyrics that make this a special gem for me. There's simply something transcendent about them that's missing in the other three tracks, solid though they are. I didn't care especially for it when I first heard it, but repeated listens have made this my favorite Mk2 track, of all things.

Wow, 4-way tie going on there... seems like it's much easier to pick a winner off a BS record...

I just broke the tie...I consider Hard Lovin' Man an epic closing track from an album brimming with epic tracks.  I think Space Truckin' is pretty good, whereas No Once Came is my least favourite Fireball track and Our Lady is nothing special to me.
