All right. "Liebestraum" without scratch!

I subscribe to an economics/market newsletter and, towards the end of the newsletter, the writer mentions a classical music piece that he is particularly fond of. One week, he included this piece, as played by Arthur Rubenstein, and said that although he cannot give 100% guarantees for anything, the one he wanted to give most of all was a 100% guarantee that we would really enjoy this song if we gave it a good, honest listen.

I took him up on that and discovered a true gem. Although this video has some real bad hiss to it, it's still so charming to watch the man do his music like he does.

After that, I had to get a proper, hiss-less recording of Rubenstein playing "Liebestraum", which means life-dream. I love playing it on Sunday mornings, when I like things to be quiet, peaceful, and soulful in my home.

I cannot listen to it now, anyway, here's a little correction: "Liebestraum" is German for "love dream". "Life dream" would be "Lebenstraum".

Lovely piece of music. I first came across it in a Gentle Giant song, "Nothing at all". It comes in during the drum solo at 5:50.

Oh wow, that's so cool in the Gentle Giant piece! And, yes, my German is always open to correction.

That is one of my favorite parts of prog rock, recognizing the incorporation of a classical piece, or discovering a classical piece that made its way into a prog-rock song. It's like bumping into an old friend.
