More "Golden Age" discussion from an old-timer... but I like it, so I'll talk about it.

Any other fans of the 'zine? Not all the stuff in it was stellar, but just about anything from Moebius, Drulliet, Enki Bilal, Gimenez - particularly if it was written by Alejandro Jodorowsky - just blows my mind, Moebius' stuff most of all.

In general, I find that I'll prefer stuff done by/for European audiences more than stuff done by/for American audiences.

My favorite series was "The Incal", a Moebius/Jodorowsky project. I own it in a revised, CGI-enhanced printing from Humanoids Press, but I prefer it in the original, flat coloring done for the magazine.

^ Wow, that blonde fellow has made some interesting wardrobe choices... Robin Hood tights, Conan fur vest, Davy Crockett raccoon hat...

I must also admit my own fondness for Asterix and Tintin when I was a kid and they were being translated into English around that time. Tintin in Tibet and Flight 714 were the Tintin adventures that probably prepared me most for Metal Hurlant-style BD.

Asterix was just goofy fun, through and through. It's why I took Latin in high school, I admit that without shame.

And that's where we meet GIR, the same person as Moebius and Jean Giraud. Full circle, if you will. :)

But as a tangent to that circle, we have to look to MAD magazine of the 50s and 60s, with influential artists like Wally Wood, Bill Elder, George Woodbridge, Jack Davis, and Mort Drucker. Those last two were big influences on Moebius, along with a big helping of Wood.

^^^ Yessss !
In 1976, Moebius worked on the first film project of Dune, directed by Alejandro Jodorowsky. despite his promising casting with Salvador Dali, Mick Jagger and Orson Welles. The project aborted during its conception before the project was entrusted to David Lynch.
some Moebius works for Dune :

The name of Denis Villeneuve is already heard for a reboot.

Moebius also worked on Ridley Scott's Alien. The character combinations on their journey to the spacecraft emitting the signal on LV-426 are from Moebius.

great artist.

If you ever get a chance to see Alejandro Jodorowski's Dune, see it! Amazing documentary and the glimpses into what Jodo would have done with the Dune material are amazing, especially his vision for the ending.
