The third eye

I started looking upwards more and discovered a sense of tranquility. I read that has something to do with the third eye

The mind's eye, yes.

So what was your experience? As simple as your statement, or was there more to it?

Almost that simple. Words, ya know?

Laying in bed, feeling anxious about the next day's events. Noticed a lessening of the tension when I turned my gaze, or just my attention "upward". Did the same thing today, led to nice returns at work. I realized I'm certainly not the only person who may have discovered this, some googling let to this notion of the third eye and kundalindi and yadda

Goes with the line from Zen Buddhism: "You can study all you want to make your teaching great, but if you do not meditate, your inner light will die out."

I can tell you one thing; nothing blind your third eye as much as alcohol. In my drinking periods i'm absolutely disconected with my spirituality.
But there's no doubt there's a huge difference in looking straight forward and looking down on the ground.

I often look upwards and I think of my deceased mother and brother and it always brings a smile to my face. Their suffering is over, they're in a better place, they are together and in my eyes that leaves no room for sadness.

Because I have balance issues, I often keep my eyes on the ground as I walk. So, when I want to look up, I have to stop. At that point, I want it to be worthwhile, so I take everything in. Looking up for me means shutting off my inner voice and opening myself to impressions from all around me.

It is at times like those that I become most aware of others and least aware of myself.

I am enjoying what this person is saying...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTeKP4g0a4k

And I have had moments of ecstasy such as he describes. In one moment, I felt my connection to each living thing around me in the form of a path from my mind to each other plant and animal as I looked around. It happened as I drove my car, lasted for several minutes.

Thanks for sharing that. I'm not onboard with his notion of " beyond the physical", but he is a very good speaker. If I substituted a different word for "physical" I would be completely satisfied!

It's also important to keep an open brown eye.

* Zzzptm ignores the Zen jesters...

@Sicko: I do that, sometimes. I'll swap out a word or two as someone lectures on and think, "Now it fits my way of seeing things perfectly!" I may not believe exactly as the presenter after that, but I appreciate the similarities.

Of course, if the word I'm replacing is "not" or "no" or some other diametric opposite, I'm not going down the similarity path. But if it's changing out some spiritual term to better fit my personal vocabulary... then I'm not all that different on that view, am I?
