Mk2 Reunion in the Studio... best album?
« on: March 05, 2018, 12:48:40 PM »
For me, the choice is clear: Perfect Strangers. HOBL gets a respectable 2nd place and TBRO is a very distant third, one of my least favored of all the DP catalog.

Stacked up to the original Mk2 lineup, though, I would put all three below all four of the Mk2 studio albums. A big part of the reason is Paice's drumming on PS/HOBL, as he was going through a rough patch at the time, so he kept it very simple. I really miss his expertise with the fills. As for TBRO, it's clear that Gillan and Blackmore are ready to kill each other and the whole thing is recorded on eggshells. Not a lot of adventure or exploration on it, and I was very glad for the release of Purpendicular as a new dawn for the band.

I'll go with Perfect Streetrangers as well...House Of Blue Light isn't all that good and The Battle Rages on has some great tracks but it's not quite up to par with PS.

Now I'm expecting Billy to look 'em over and ask which one has less Dio on it, he'll vote for that one.

I won free tickets to see DP headline the Texxas Jam that year and my parents said I couldn't go.

When they showed people being loaded into ambulances there due to heat exhaustion, my dad asked, "Aren't you glad you're not there?" I said, "No, because I'd be happy to skip some of the opening acts to show up late and catch Deep Purple performing."
