He's got a new album. I'm 3 tracks in to it and it's great stuff. Funky instrumental rock with a strong 60's vibe.

If you like the "cool" music of the 60s, but want a little more energy in your lounge, Chris Joss is your go-to.

He will have the occasional song with vocals, but most of what he does is instrumental.

A great place to start with Chris Joss is his 1999 release:

A soundtrack from a movie that was never made. Once I heard this, though, I started to imagine the flick and now I'm sure I've seen it maybe three times. The opening track sets the move expertly, from the spy-style keyboard line to the gunshot percussion/horns sting and car chase sound effects. It's easy to imagine our protagonist with a McGuffin in his suitcase, moving through San Francisco in 1969. It ain't the summer of love, as the Zodiac killer is just getting started and the moon shot is yet to happen.

The whole album maintains fidelity with 60's thriller sensibilities, a sort of pre-dated version of the Shaft soundtrack. It's very easy to unwind to, but just as easy to get inspired to do creative stuff from hearing these tracks.

The two bonus tracks at the end are less typical of 60's retro and point the way towards Joss' future output. In later works, Joss remembers the 60s and 70s, but will update as needed. If you like one of his albums, you're likely to like all of his output, give it a go!
