Ok Jack, your fears were well founded, England batted very well and reached the total for only the loss of 2 wickets and with nearly 18 overs to spare.

I'm not going to gloat, I'm dissapointed it wasn't more of a contest, but sometimes in a game like this you have your good days and your bad days.

Wow, only 2 wickets... well done, England!

England' thoroughly deserve their finals birth. Way too good when it counted. They will be hard to beat in the final.

Australia is just gonna have to go win the Ashes now kilo  ;)

[Edit] Actually I should say retain the Ashes  :smug:

The Ashes is a very different beast to the one day game, but I'm confident we can best the Brats!! :P

The Cricket World Cup final is about to start. New Zealand vs England at Lords on an overcast (but dry) day. New Zealand won the toss and will bat first.

Jack, are you supporting NZ as close neighbours? Or is like England with Scotland... you support any team playing against Scotland! ;)

It's a busy day for sport in the UK, as well as the Cricket, we also have the Wimbledon Tennis Men's Final, the F1 British Grand Prix and -- if anyone's interest -- the Netball World Cup!! Not a great day for TV viewing if you're not a sports fan!

I'm kinda neutral on this one. I've developed a hatred for NZ over their All-Blacks rugby union team and I don't need a reason to hate England in Cricket  :P

In saying that I do like to see an underdog get up.

Making slow work of it are NZ. I think they are working on a minimum total of 250 and will back themselves in to defend it with some good seam bowling and hoping the pressure will get to England. They'd wanna up start lifting the run rate soon NZ if they are gonna get to 250.

They just brought up 150 in the 35th over, so I think 250 is doable, but they have lost 4 wickets... have they got the batting in depth to get there?

They've got some big hitting all-rounders to come. If they can get 100 off the last 10 they will push well past 250.

Taylor copped a shit decision. But stupid Guptil wasted a referral on a plumb LBW.

So England have been set a total of 242. Great discipline bowling from England. Only 14 fours conceded. Hard to see England losing this. NZ is going to have to produce some exceptional bowling to pull this one out or England have a big choke.

Enjoy Kilo!

New Zealand closed on 241-8, I don't think it will be enough, but it is the sort of total that a good bowling performance could defend like they did against India in the Semi.

Well that was exciting and emotional. Following New Zealand's innings of 241, England maganed to also score 241 off their alloted 50 overs. They needed 15 to win off the last over and got a huge peice of luck when they got 4 over throws and went on to score 14 and to tie.

So it was decided with a "super over", where both teams get an extra over, England went first and scored 15, NZ also scored 15 but because they didn't get 16+ England won... seems a little harsh but those is the rules.

New Zealand played a great game defending a lowish total, England seemed not to want to win at times throwing their wickets away needlessly.

I'm going to lie down now and let my blood pressure return to normal.

Wow! Crazy final. Seemed England blew it, then NZ blew it, then cricket blew it with some farcical rule. Apparently England hit more boundarys in their innings so won on count back.

Why even bother with a super over then? Just do the count back to begin with if it takes precedent in the end. Should just keep going with super overs until someone wins fair and square.

I agree there must be a better way of deciding it than that. Even in football the away goals are considered before extra time is played.
