First Responder Bowl - Boston College vs Boise St. in Dallas Texas

Game cancelled because of severe lightning storm.  First time a College Bowl game has been cancelled since 1941.  Don't they have any meteorologists in Texas?  :P

Well, the rain storm showed up after the date for the bowl game was set. :)

It's also at the Cotton Bowl, which is open-air. We've had rain all afternoon and then the lightning started in the evening. Quite a light show today.

Rain is no problem for football.  In the past, when a lightning storm is in the forecast, they have delayed the start of the game, so it could be played.

Open Air bowling? That's a thing?

Stadiums are often called "bowls" here in the USA because, from above, they look like rather nice bowls. So we have open-air American-rules Football.

Actual bowlers are sensible folk that ply their craft in climate-controlled indoor alleys.

This one, though, the lightning ran from about 4PM through to 1 or 2AM.

Ah that makes sense....well sort of...I did wonder about that for a bit...

Sorry Jack I wasn't following this thread... not quite sure why popped into it now actually!

Yes, I like cricket and I have been following the Cricket World Cup, a shame a number of matches have been abandoned due to the weather, I'm not sure why they haven't built in extra days to catch up... this is England y'know!!

Your lads had a good-ish innings today, the way they started I was expecting a few more runs on the board. I think Sri Lanka could get to 335 but it's still a tough total.

No worries. Yeah the weather has been a joke. The tournament's long enough as it is without having to schedule make up days but they do have reserve days for the Semi Finals and Final. Not having grounds with lights doesn't help either.

Aussies are going ok but still haven't settled on their batting and bowling lineups as yet and the lack of a front line spinner and in form genuine all rounder could hurt them.

Be surprised and very disappointed if Sri Lanka chase down 334, does seem a very good batting wicket though.

Your boys are looking the goods at the moment but once they reach the SF stage will be interesting to see how they handle the pressure being the home team and hot favourites all along.

Yeah, I see it. There's only about 3 teams who have a hope to chase that total down... and Sri Lanka are one of them, but a couple of quick wickets would change it all around.

And yes, England may be pre-tournament favourites... but we're England and we can quite easily snatch defeat from the jaws of victory! ;)

Well, despite a promising start Sri Lanka crumbled and lost by 87 runs. Good win for the Aussies.

^ I read a set of tips on how to watch cricket, and they included the caution that if you cheer for England, be ready for what you just described! :D

England, India and New Zealand would be my 3 outside of Australia that are capable of big run chasers. New Zealand are real sleepers in this World Cup. They've been a good one day side for quite awhile and have always performed well in world cups. 7 x Semi Finalist

I was thinking England, India and Sri Lanka but I don't think Sri Lanka are the team they were. I hadn't thought of New Zealand, but you're quite right, they are a real dark horse and another semi-final is more than likely. If things continue as they are I would say India, England, Australia and New Zealand in the semis.

Anyway it is India vs Pakistan today with an anticipated global audience of 1 billion plus... the football world cup final only saw 1.5 billion! They could have sold 700,000 tickets for the match for a stadium which usually only holds 26,000.
