It has finally started to rain, as last week we got some throughout the Island. We desperately needed it.
Temps are around 10 C the last few days with midday highs of 17 to 18 C. The leaves are turning and the air is getting that chill.

Off topic, when you say "the island", does that mean you live on Vancouver Island rather than the city of Vancouver? Looking at a map I see Seattle isn't that far away over the border... do you ever visit?

I'll let Thel handle his local geography - but there's loads of islands up that way, wouldn't be surprised if he was on one.

Here in Texas, those 17-18C temps are our morning lows, afternoon highs hitting around 29-32C. It's been dry here, but should have more rain later in the week.

Yes I live on Vancouver Island, and specifically in the city of Victoria. It is very beautiful here.
I have not been to Seattle but I may go see it someday.

  I guess technically does make me a Pacific Islander!! I was not born here but came to the Island in my early 20s.
I am from the other side of Canada, New Brunswick to be exact. I lived for a year in Hawaii in my late teens and when I went back to NB I could not handle the harsh winters anymore. The winters here on the Island are very mild and we rarely get snow and it usually stays above -5.
Vancouver Island is very beautiful and is lush with vegetation, as we live in a moderate rain forest.

Yes, it's absolutely gorgeous up there. Kind of place where if you drop a bag of seeds in your backyard, you'll have a bumper crop in 90 days, no questions asked. Except for cactus. Only wee tiny cactus seems to be able to manage up that way.

I visited Seattle in summer 2002 and took a day trip through the San Juan Islands, gorgeous sunny day with cool temperatures. I was in Vancouver for business a few years ago: same song, slightly further north. Truly awesome seafood out that way.
